The difficulty scaling is great. Going from a free hearted romp without a care in the world to sweating every single choice and the sinking feeling when a gamble doesn't pay off or the sheer satisfaction when that gamble does. Been said before but I'll say it again, Layers and Choice. 3 years on i'm playing my first Merchant focused build and the economics are doing my head in!! (in a good way) Its Like playing for the first time again. Variety of ships. Variety of classes that are not locked into one role. Being a Spy. (My personal fave) The atmospheric setting, some of those text descriptions are beautiful and almost make it seem like i'm there. (The Patreon teaser is looking very tasty ) And to agree with everyone else the developers themselves and the community are a large part of it all too. I think its just basically RPG'ing distilled to almost pure Vudka The (sometimes) rage! Pass the spice plate spacer x 3 quickly

Wow as a new player (couple months) it's nice to find somewhere to rave about this fantastic game. I only wish I'd found it sooner with ST2 so imminent. That may work against the TB LOL. I'll likely be playing this and enjoying it too much to buy 2. I read over the posts here and echo what has been said. To add, the layering is lovely as the end effect for me it's playing multiple games at once. And those games combine many of my all time faves. Think chess meets Risk meets AD&D...And on. All in the 4th dimension lol. The world of ST, it's backdrop, it's science. There's fantasy elements, allowing your imagination to feel the classics, Rodenburry, Lucas, Herbert. There's the science! Since I've not seen much praise of this except socio-economic (which is amazing), I want to laud the other disciplines interwoven. The ship tech vs. performance! The quantum mechanics, especially the aspect of relativity I've found. What makes those dread weeks flee, what doesn't? Although I imagine, and might be right that while I'm in the Hall and Palace garnering Rumors, it's a day or two that passes, which is why I don't see the week turn. Going to the wrong location on a near expired contact seems to bear that out.anyways, here I get my Heinlein, Asimov etc. fix. Got to emphasize we get our own mythology! Seriously, *****'s, A++! What drew me in was Explorer. MO drew me into elite. I haven't even played all the classes yet! I love MO, and the title class, Star Trader! I LOVE two months in I'm just realizing, do I really want to go 20 AU to deliver a package that's just gonna piss everyone off, or go make this subtle trade on restricted or common goods into a shortage + Trade Alliance? But I'm an MO! Yep, and the boys on the front need weapons, tech and supplies! I love that for the first time in years I'm thinking about writing again. This idea of a father and son stuck on [»»NAME OMITTED. SHALUN FORUM LAW. Sec.789.15, article b, subsection f.««]...lol, anyway it won't leave my brain. I like perma-death, especially how when I think I'm big and bad ass, I'm really 1 AU from "Today, aboard the..." I like the culture and community here that's grown around this game. In that aspect I'm fortunate to be new on the Quadrant. I've got all you red-eyed, greyish skinned, harsh, acidic breathed Spacers to show me the way.
Thank you, Jason

I randomly found the free version while looking for a new game to mess around with. Honestly, I didn't think I would enjoy it all that much, but was quickly proven wrong. The survival and tactics which go into it are amazing, with the game still being easy to operate. I can't even count the times I've been screwed over by faction wars and trade bans, so politics was a painful thing to deal with, like it should be.
Oh...(Getting into the RP of things)and Thulun is amazing. No question about it.

Thanks to everyone for their amazing posts and encouragement. It's fuel in the tank, even better than coffee. If you love the Captain's life, don't miss the short fiction by Brett Caron, which is a really up-close-and-personal look at the Captain's life, and especially that of an Explorer: blog.tresebrothers.com/2015/05/no-legacy-between-stars-short-fiction.htmlWe're working with him now on the next piece, which follows a Bounty Hunter capthawk - so glad it is inspiring you to write. That's awesome! There are great fan fiction boards here!

Even better than coffee? fallen's account must have been hijacked, there's no way he would say that.

I'd have to say being a Pirate in Space, trying to stay alive and keep the crew happy.
You can ignore parts of the game and still survive, but you always live a little longer if you take the time and pay attention (I still don't get what each planet value implies, but that's just me memorizing where the best prices to buy and sell are, someday I'll get it).
The best thing for would be the difficulty curve this game has. I can still remember the days I was starting out and playing on the easier levels, where I would die constantly because of stupid things I would do. Finally I'd learn how to survive and move up a difficulty. Today I'm fighting against Insane, and stay alive is a challenge.

I like the dedication that you will have to invest into the game to get ahang of it. It's cool to know, that if your friends asks you what this game is about and you just know that you cannot explain it in 5 minutes and even if you try, his mind will be fucked up Are you going to include the clans (Zenrin, Alta Mesa, Moklumnue) into ST2? That'd be awesome.

The fact that I don't become some all powerful "Mary Sue" type character. That I can both make a living and a name for myself(how I view the rep system) in the Quadrant without becoming a "power".I find it to be an unfortunate trend in gaming that in most single player games the protagonist ends up being ridiculously powerful/blessed/overpowered.Will I ever be Prince of my own world?No...but unlike said Prince I'm not shackled to a single planet or faction.I may not be a "power" but I DO have a power that the Princes do not-the power to CHOOSE.

This is one of the things that I LOVE about Star Traders. The story is about a single Captain ... does he or she command a thousand ships? NO. Does he or she have designs to conquer the Quadrant? NO. Star Traders is a more realistic setting where a ship's Captain never rises to become Emperor of Mankind. That isn't to say that there aren't some people out there who DEMAND the overpowered concept be added, but I just don't see it coming into ST RPG or even ST2.
