So we have Defensive and Offensive squares, both of which are immensely useful, but only under certain circumstances where you need to go out of your way (losing tempo in the process, often enough to make it a gamble...) to utilize them.
Why not have a similar square or area (whether it is a cross shape, or a 9-block in some more remote map areas...) where there is some cooling element or something contextual/setting appropriate that would double/triple your Mech's Heat burn-off rate?
Would it also be feasible/balanced to provide an increased rate of cool down while within the immediate vicinity of the Tact Points?
Heat is such a beast to master, but for so many classes, I find that more than half of the buffs I would like to use are disabled when the Mech is overheated. Take the Leader-in-the-ranks Soldier for example. Once you overheat, they become almost useless (I only mean their buffs-- their weapons work fine of course.) and eventually can do nothing but move/shoot. By allowing a few tactical spaces that allow a Mech to drop heat in a faster, more balanced manner, you can provide a counterbalance to an ever climbing Heat level.
Also, once you reach a certain point, death becomes inevitable for a Templar. If a Xeno knocks you below 20 life and you are overheated, if your Paladin is too far away, or you don't have your Heat Sink Engineer or a Med Kit, you're likely going to die, as you can only burn off so much Heat per turn.
Before everyone comes back with just raise Willpower, I understand its importance and never neglect it (I did do the Alpha after all ).

If this isn't something you want to add, would you consider taking a look at certain buffs (Calling Shots for one...) and seeing if allowing them when overheated would unbalance the game? I'm just not a fan of how the moment you get overheated (which in some cases can be by turn 5...), your most important class buffs shut off. This is pushing me away from using these particular talents because of the way the game is intended to be played-- What is the point of using the buffs on extended deployments if you spent the entire level overheated?
I don't mean to rant, but since I started bashing my way through the game again this has been seriously irking me.
Thanks in advance for your consideration!
