Epic failure's challenge!

Well, I just got a group through E1. Finished with a score of 153k. It's going to be interesting because I'm going to be leading with Vraes for a while. He's uber armored up and Fyona stands behind him protecting squishy Tamilin and Kj. Kj got his unlock spell which helps with the tricky doors in the Storerooms and sometimes I'll probably unglom and send Vraes in to trigger the combat alone. I've never led with him before like this. Should be interesting. The team has great damage output right now without buying any weapons or armor. Now I just need to play carefully.

Wow, I just nearly ended my run with a stupid mistake. I thought I would try and see if I could use Kj's unlock talent to open non-locked doors from a distance. It would be handy actually with the way I'm leading with Vraes. Instead of using his magic to open the doors he just sprinted to the door and opened it by hand spawing a mess of ratkin with lots of archers. Considering it a non combat error I FCed the game and reopened it. When I restarted it at least placed Fyona in the door in stead of KJ. I let it ride. Still she finished the turn with 21 hp. A little too close for comfort.

And another ironman party bites the dust! The UF is a deadly environment in all degrees despite being experienced there. In this case, in the Smith's Hoard there is a switch that when activated triggers a battle in which the enemy goes first. A Spider Host sauntered up and hit my Tamilin three times for over 700 damage in total. Ouch.

I had forgotten about that switch and wasn't fully buffed after the last battle. May be a warning text from the characters could be supplied to give people a chance to buff? Any battle that places such dangerous enemies that close to the party and lets them attack first is automatically deadly.

Now...I know I can beat my old high score provided I actually survive the trials of the game. Do I replay the party or attempt a new party of Vraes or Strickening group. I have yet to be satisfied with a version of Vraes and have been inspired by others on this forum to attempt a tank/juggernaut character with the original party. Use Tamilin/Kjartan to beat down enemies to low levels and let Vraes finish with juggernaut and charge ahead in battle. No berserk to weaken his defenses. Or a classic Strickening party. I have little experience with Fyona in this game to date.

Frankly? Can't recall a switch you mentioning.

One of the gate switches in the upper right map triggers a back attack. The party mentions something about being cornered and then they assault.

The only chance I had was to have had warders shield cast and maybe tamilin could have dodged one of the attacks.

Just really unfortunate placement the way my party and enemies spawned allowing the spider host to close enough to close the distance and still get three full melee attacks.

Grrr, sorry man. I know the spawn you're talking about. If I ever get there I'll be careful how I position everyone before I pull the lever.

Yeah, I got hit once by that same spawn. This is why I am trying to make the picture walkthrough. Even if you are seasoned, a quick runthrough of it can remind you of key encounters. Sorry to hear about the loss of the IM phaze!

I tried a build with Vraes leading the charge once, the city of the dead destroyed it completely!
...I really hate those stupid ghouls
