I've been thinking, because of the Neptune/Hydra Challenge, about what other thematic Battleforces would be cool to play.
One such Battleforce I was thinking of would be the Infantry Battalion. You would only have access to Soldiers, Scouts and Engineers as your main forces. You could have specialists attached to you deployment, such as the Hydra for the Galantia Cross deployment, or a Paladin attached as a medic. The restriction would be only one specialist could be deployed per mission.
What are some thought about other thematic Battleforces?

Too many Chiefs, not enough Indians. TCI, all Captain squad.

I do like the idea of going all soldiers and being forced to really develop some of the different branches. They are probably the most versatile unit. After playing the Specialist challenge, I wonder how much influence the lower cost of soldiers would have. It seems like in a lot of levels you would just maybe be able to field one more unit. Now with scouts, you might be able to get some crazy big numbers deployed...

You would likely have a lot of attrition as well, considering Scouts are the squishiest class, and while they excell at taking down single targets, they lack the AoE damage that most classes bring to the table.

The Incinerator Crew. I know we just did it with the challenge, but hopefully they get their much needed up-balance and can become a force of their own. Two close range Hydra with Incinerate and Hellstorm, one officer type with Heat Waves and Inferno Seal, and two Suppressors running Redline Reactor, Napalm Charge and Lance.
Also fun would be a Bullet Storm group. -Two engineers with Turrets and Fortify Position -Soldier officer with Rallying Charge and Calling Shots to make everyone else more deadly and keep mobility up. -Two Neptunes set up to destroy. One gets a Full-Auto/OW build, the other goes for Concentrated or Suppressing.

Jack of All - Goal is to put out as many different types of Templars as possible every mission. Doubling up on Templar class should only be if you can't swap out a second unit of a certain class at start of mission or if the mission cap allows for more templars than classes. To make it really interesting rotate your deployments as much as possible so say your paladin and Berserker didn't get in on last deployment they are first ones swapped in on next. Also rotate any duplicates so if Dalan the Soldier goes on this deployment he's first one swapped out on next.

Another idea: Tunnel Fighters (aka Templar classic)
Main force is Plasma Gunner Soldiers and Berserkers. The whole Battleforce would be kitted out for short range engagements. Scouts would be limited and built on speed and slowing the enemy.

Tunnel Fighters is Soldiers and 1 Heavy of your choice, IMO. Soldiers Only + Neptune / Hydra.

I like that idea. I would build the Neptunes with Concentrated Fire and Full Auto.

I think if you want to go TA classic, you have to say no OW.

I'm wanting to build something with berserks next, but I'd also be interested in a tunnel fighter challenge/TA classic.

Lol, wut? Play Templar Battleforce without using OW? You must have been breathing fumes for prolonged periods...

I think if you want to go TA classic, you have to say no OW. Overwatch was in TA. You just had to budget AP for it. Soldiers had a chance to use no AP on overwatch
