Yeah... tempting the fates would be to call it the Never Lost. :-p I stand by my opinion, if naming for good is no guarantee, neither is naming for ill... Besides I don't think the name implies ill so much as ironic humor - again Lost is metaphorical to my mind in this case anyway. I also don't think the earth was made in six earth days... I do agree with the general order though... If you have 20 ships, 5 are lost, one happens to have chosen Shipwreck as its name, the other four named after women's body parts... It's not surprising that when the names come up stupid people think "Shipwreck, don't say that, it's a bad omen." Meanwhile the lost ship "Boobies" merely makes the all male crew just long for shore leave and the affection of a woman. Stupid lonely scurvy ridden men don't invent or pilot thru jump gates... That all being said, if sticking to absurd maritime superstitions is that important I can retract my vote again... Dumb bunnies shouldn't have votes anyhow except fallen is generous...

I do agree with the general order though... If you have 20 ships, 5 are lost, one happens to have chosen Shipwreck as its name, the other four named after women's body parts... That all being said, if sticking to absurd maritime superstitions is that important I can retract my vote again... Dumb bunnies shouldn't have votes anyhow except fallen is generous... I don't want you to retract your vote, at least not over this, and sticking to my family's cultural traditions is unlikely to be important. But if debate over whether the ship is 'ill-named and ill-omened' is going to form a part of the comic, then fallen needs to know how the superstition works and how people who believe in such things would talk about it. For all I know, he is as clueless about the tradition as you are. This sort of ignorance, properly used could make for some interesting dialog, revealing of how life as a Spacer is, and how it differs both from life as we know it now, and as Gravs know it in the time of the comic. Because life in space is so dangerous, the Spacers must have worked out their own set of superstitions for avoiding bad luck. Even if they are all rationalists, and reject any sort of magical thinking altogether -- this sort of dogmatic insistance on rationalism can form its own cultural boundary with customs and taboos every bit as opaque to the uninitiated as the seaman's superstitions. But are any of the crew of the ship we haven't named new to the Space Life? Getting Landlubbers ... er Gravs ... aware and respectful of the Spacer's superstitions and taboos will be a constant problem, as it always is when an insular society has to accept some 'outsiders' in their midst. For instance, the 'Never Lost' is a Great Ship Name, such a thoroughly acceptable one that it is one of 3 or 4 traditional names that you give your children's small boats, the first one they get to sail themselves. (Or these days, many children are getting motorboats that don't have sails.) This is sort of like getting a bicycle -- it gives the children in island communities the freedom to get around and do things outside of adult supervision. So if an adult named his ship that, well, he'd get jokes about 'haven't you grown up yet' -- but nothing about breaking the superstition taboo.

As this may be the poll that teaches me a lesson, I've taken Never Lost as another suggestion.
Please remember you can suggest your own name, as well as support other people's names that you like with votes.
Lost Shepherd (+2 votes) Space Girl (+2 votes) Never Lost (+1 vote) Zealous Seeker (+1 vote) Shippy McShipface (+1 vote) Promethium Clipper (+1 vote) Acute Angle (+1 vote) Vamoose (+1 vote)

My problem is that I don't care so much. There are names there I would be horrified to have on *my* ship, but the names I consider the worst may be the best from a narrative point of view. So we can scratch Acute Angle.
Hmm. I just typed 'Acute Angel'. Can you imagine if the name the ship had was the result of a typo like this, or a similar one. The fights between those who want to call her the Angel and those who insist that that is not her name?

Lol Acute Angel ... A Cute Angel. I can see this crew getting mocked mercilessly about their ship name in the spice hall Maybe the cause of some brawls. Looking forward to getting clear of this scene and moving on to new territory and some CYOA polls related to the action again!

I made that angel joke name for my own humour on my walk yesterday, didn't think it'd "fly". I hope not letting bunnies vote wasn't the lesson for my own sake... Never Lost could be blind hope, or the height hubris ... or possibly someone in denial about it's history and so they decided the rediculous ritualistic renaming hoops were worth jumping thru... About those superstitions... in my mind they come in three types 1: useful, such as believing theft will result in the thief being struck by lightning - this results in the 'religious' observer being kept away from acts of communal harm. 2: harmless, e.g. wearing red socks help you be more awesome... somehow... ok, maybe could get annoying... and 3: harmful, such as: the accused witch must not be given trial as to not cast spells on the judge and jury, she must be decapitated, head on a pike and body tied to rocks and thrown in to further 'drown', fished out, left as carrion until dry and then burned. Not only potentially harmful to tbe life of innocents, but just hugely wasteful of time and resources. :-p As long as naming superstitions don't cause a neglect of due diligence or deliberate or careless harm, harmless, but humans tend to be less than ideal at not letting their assumptions cause harm, so in practice that's where most superstitions remain. Even the lightning example could easily become, "Meh, so the burglar stole the tools of your livelihood, it's ok, not police concern cause he'll get struck by lightning..." "But what about my tools - I can't feed myself without the income from their use?" "Well, you better hope the lightning gets 'im where the tools can be recovered."BUT HE'S NOT LIKELY TO BE STRUCK BY LIGHTNING!" "GASP, BLASPHEMY! IT'S DEATH TO YOU BLASPHEMER!" Don't think severe cases of superstitions don't end badly... So many wars of superstitions and egos clinging to them, religion of course becomes the scape goat even though careful readings often ask the opposite of such harms... PS The horse carcass has been soundly mistreated for your gladiatorial entertainment... I apologise for the harm it may have caused those who don't enjoy such spectacle.

Derrick is an assault rifle user first and foremost, with pistols close up. Killer, that helps narrow it down. As per his profile, he's dangerous with anything, but he'd pick an assault rifle first. En1gma - would you be interested in finding a reference for Derrick's assault rifle off Google images? There are so many kinds ... With his dislike of distance, he isn't going to stay in the crows nest.

Awesome! The first thing I thought of when you asked...
Derrick would grab either the AR 177 or 119 from the Intermediate Class Section, depending on the situation.
I can post a screenshot of nobody minds it going up on Imgur...

Caseless ammunition AND a four shot grenade launcher? Derrick would be quite at home with that monster, I agree.
