Greetings everyone,
Iv been playing HoS on and off for a while now without any problems whatsoever. For a rather long time now I have stopped playing because of constant crashes tho :-( Im in act 2 and on my way to some city and when I left an area the game crashed. Thinking no ill I just tried again while making sure to always send the crash reports. Since it would not load the new map in any of my multiple attempts I eventually stopped trying hoping for a bug fix, trying again every now and again. Now Im pretty hyped to play again and the game still crashes for me :-( I just tried to create a new group to see if that works but instead of crashing the game prompting an error report it will just freeze and give me a different bug (without crash report).
As I cant really do anything with the game now, Im afraid I cant be any more specific about the steps I do to recreate the problem. It just crashes before I get to do anything all the time. I cannot move a single step.
Since I didnt see any similar problems on the first couple of pages I have now reported in here hoping for a miraculous resurrection of my game state :-)
Thanks in advance for your time and help!
Edit: Device information: Windows 7, 64bit version. Most recent crash: several within 10 minutes before this post. Turn: Nobodys turn, free map movement Feature/Item: Didnt use anything, just opened a new map Waht happened: Game closed asking me to send a crash report y/n

We would totally love to help!
1) What OS? 2) What device? 3) What device details? 4) What is the e-mail on the crash reports (if applicable)
We monitor our crash reporting system in detail, 2-3 times per day I check and triage all crashes.
Our average time to fix on a crash reported by users is 32 hours.
Details are super, super important in this type of case. We're only able to act if we have details.
Thanks for the post, hopefully you'll be able to take the time to help us help you.
If you are asking for a refund, e-mail cory.trese@gmail.com thanks

Crash rates are extremely low on Steam atm, the game is very, very stable. Can you possibly try verifying your installed files? It sounds likely it is something on your end. Latest graphic drivers?

When you send your crash reports, do you leave the e-mail and details fields blank?

galahadb - it looks like from the crash report that you may have modded the game? Did you install some new map tilesets perhaps?

galahadb - it looks like from the crash report that you may have modded the game? Did you install some new map tilesets perhaps? I concur. These are crashes that we file under "user mod crash" because they're flagged by the game as not using our assets. We tend to triage these into a bucket of user-created issues. If you didn't mod, then you've got a corrupted install. I'd delete everything from the game's Steam folder and re-install from scratch, or use "Verify Game Files" to repair the modded/broken images. When users provide their e-mail and have this crash, I'll e-mail them personally and explain the issue. Looks like you've left the e-mail out of your crash reports, which doesn't give me a way to get in touch with you about the issue.

Received another crash report from that same computer. Still no e-mail, so I'm not sure who it is from but it is the only computer having Heroes of Steel RPG crashes this week.
Still getting the same error related to corrupted or modded files in the Steam install folder. I'm able to test here by installing clean files from Steam. Game is working great on all other installs of the game, so long as the files aren't corrupt or modded.
Hopefully you see these messages and are able to address. Since the crash reports do not contain a contact e-mail, I cannot contact the crashing party by e-mail.

Received a crash report with your e-mail and note connecting it to this thread. Same crash, caused by mods or corrupt files.
I'll email you a how to fix.

Fastest way to update your install to unmodded files is: Steam:Library:Heroes of Steel: then right click and select properties: [local files tab]: "Verify integrity of game cache".
That will replace all modded or corrupted files with originals from steam.
Don't save HoS .tmx maps with "Tiled" map editor (you CAN view them with it though), it will always crash ime. Otherwise anything you mod, copy the original file somewhere safe where you can recover it if you don't want to download from Steam the correct files anytime anything goes wrong with the mod.

Wow, that was A LOT faster then I anticipated. I guess I should not have waited this long. I did not know I could include my E-Mail, I honestly just sent "Send" without much looking at the pop up. My bad!
I cannot recall having downloaded mods or otherwise modificated my game. The closest thing to an explanation I have is that I have upgraded to Windows 10, but that was some time last year and Im pretty sure that I played HoS afterwards without any problems.
Do you recommend to uninstall and reinstall while copying the savegame?
Thanks for your help!

Do you recommend to uninstall and reinstall while copying the savegame? Thanks for your help! Uninstall / reinstall will not touch the saved game files, as they are stored in your user data. If you have not modded the game, that is definitely the next step.
