Haha, maybe we're not talking about the same thing.
All I wanted was a way to see the limits of a selected enemy unit's targeting radius, which I didn't know how to before, but now I've learned that it can be done by using two fingers to scroll without deselecting the unit (which turns off the targeting circles).
But you mentioned something about zooming the map, which I thought meant that you can zoom in / zoom out in the map view. But when I try pinch-zooming it doesn't do anything. Was this ever meant to be a feature, or am I just misunderstanding what you meant?

All Androids supporting multitouch can zoom in and zoom out on the main map view. This includes the Samsung A5, which I have in my hand, and have tested this morning, on the latest builds of Heroes of Steel RPG, BF and ST 4X.
I was able to use standard multitouch gestures to zoom in, and zoom out, on the map view in all games on both 5.x and 6.x builds of Android OS on the Samsung A5.
Hopefully that helps answer the question.
PS: It is also, of course, supported on iOS using the same features and tested with every release. If you are playing on Mac OS X, Windows or Linux, you can bind keys or mouse features to zoom in and zoom out.

Ah, I see where the problem is now. I was trying to zoom while the enemy unit summary popup was active, and it didn't work there. But zooming does work in the main map view. Cool beans! I never knew BF came with this feature! Sorry for the confusion and wasting your time.

Shows how good the game is to enjoy it while not knowing about a critical feature that's waiting to be used.

Honestly, I've gotten so used to the default zoom level that I actually prefer playing at that resolution now. Zooming out just feels weird now. It's a good way to get an overall view of the state of the mission, though.
