Welcome everyone! I've decided to write some narratives of the stories that go through my head when I'm playing Templar Battleforce. So sit back and have fun! This is literally my first run through the game, and I'm having a blast. You can see my first post at Speed Run. This is continuing some of the story. I may paste some of the earlier encounters in later, but tonight's narrative starts just at the end of the Drayan Palace run. The team is a melee captain, beserker, soldier, engineer, scout, and nyra (paladin). I intend to post future narratives here as well, time permitting.
Extermination Protocol
---------------------------------------------------------
We race into the palace, the rebel cultists hot on our heels. Dalan turns his machine gun on the narrow gap we had just squeezed through and unloads a hail of bullets, stopping them from racing in behind us. Then we hear the welcome scream of our flyers roaring down low. Thunderous explosions lay waste to those that followed us. --coms-- Good job taking out the anti-aircraft guns, captain. We've got your backs. Now get those cult leaders before they slip away! --coms--. "Roger that. We are the tip of the spear, they won't know what hit them!" Cpt Dagravian grins fiercely, and turns to his troops. "Cool down and head in. Let's root'm out."
They carefully work their way into the interior of the palace. Fast and quiet, they put to the sword a few unsuspecting guards before slipping into the central chamber. A strange hum reverberates through the room. Cables snake along the floor, routing power to pulsing shafts of energy. In the antechamber, they meet the cultists. Laughing maniacally, they command a massive xeno beast, their 'god', to slay the templars. Unleashed, the 'god' blasts the screaming human cultists into charred husks, before turning to face them. The scittering of xenos fills the corridor. Only the Templars could face such evil otherworldly power, such dark malice, and survive.
Observing the tough body of the Xeno god, Boulder unstrapped his new Iridium Axe. "I've been looking forward to trying this out!" he cheerfully roars, and runs straight for the beast. In tandem with his captain, they quickly bring the beast to its knees, before Boulder cuts off the xeno god's head with a savage stroke. "Huh. I thought this would be harder! Who's next!" he bellows out casually.
"Uh, Boulder ..." The engineer points behind the beserker. "I don't think it's done with you yet." The body of the xeno god glows with strange energy, and the light pours out of the body into the power cabling, siphoning out with rippling energy to one of the columns. The xeno god reforms by the distant column, energy jolting the living mass back to life. Snarling, it races back towards the group. "What madness is this?" Boulder cries. "Tricky b-stard!"
"Reform! Defensive formation!" Dagravian shouts, as he buries his sword into the skull of a xeno soldier and turns to face more. "We have to take out the columns!"
Johannes assembles two sentry turrets to cover the northern approach. They open fire almost immediately, sensing the xeno swarms. Scipio settles into a sniper stance facing east, and takes aim at the xeno god. He fires a crippling shot into its leg. And another. "Its not slowing down much." He conveys quietly through the comm. "Get ready."
"Keep it busy" Boulder growls. "Nothing stops Boulder!" he roars, as he barrels headlong west.
"Wait!" Dalan shouts. "We don't know - d-mmit, Intel Boulder. Always bailing you out, you numbskull." he grumbles, as he sprints after the gleeful beserker. "The Captain said to regroup!"
Boulder hurtles past three xeno soldiers, not even blinking, his eyes on the column. Dalan hurrying behind, spraying cover fire on the xenos to give Boulder a chance. The axe sings, two mighty blows. Xenos begin to race toward him. Meanwhile, the squad defends their perimeter from north and east assaults. Dalan fires a final burst at the west column and it blackens, going dark.
"First down! Two to go! Boulder shouts with glee as he races back down the passage.
"You numbskull, watch out!" Dalan shouts, as he lays down cover fire to keep the xenos from catching up to the beserker.
Meanwhile, Nyra and the Captain dispatch the xeno god once more. It reforms down the east corridor. Emboldened by Boulder's victory, Dagravian shouts orders. "Hold the xeno off from the north. Boulder's shown us the way. I think I can take out the east column. It does not seem as heavily guarded. Nyra, watch my back."
With a boost of warrior's speed, Cpt Dagravian races down the east corridor, with Nyra engaging Xenos uncovered in his wake. He runs up to the column. The xeno god snarls at him. "Go back to hell, you beast!" he shouts, as he spits the creature on his sword. With luck it will reform in the north column, leaving this one unguarded, right? The column swirls with energy, reinvigorating the xeno god where it stands. "D*mn! It didn't work!" The creature turned on him and unleashed a powerful ray of plasma force. It washes over his battlesuit, badly damaging it. "I'm falling back! Cover me!" Using his boosted speed, he moved rapidly away from the xeno god. Nyra heals his wounds as they race back to the main group.
"That was reckless." Nyra admonishes. "Sound tactics dictate that - "
"I know! But we learned about it, and lived - "
"Barely." Nyra looks at Dagravian. "You still have a lot to learn in the ways of the templar, young captain."
The comms crackle to life. "Move an inch to your left, captain." He ducks, and the sniper rifle cracks, a bullet whizzing past his ear.
"Good shot Scipio! We're coming in!" They race back into their fortified position.
"We need to figure out a way to keep the xeno god away from the column while we take it out - where's Boulder?" Dagravian looks around.
Scipio thumbs in the northern direction. They hear a happy bellow of the beserker racing toward another column, Dalan cursing behind him trying to keep xenos off of him.
"Dalan here. There's a lot - repeat, a LOT more xeno to the north, coming from all sides! Its more than I can hold off!"
Boulder's axe crunches into the north column once, twice. It holds. The east perimeter then receives the brunt of the Xeno god and a wave of xeno warriors. The captain responds. "Dalan, you're going to have to hold them off yourself. Scipio wait! hold that sho -"
The xeno god slumps to the ground ... and reforms next to Boulder to the north.
"It is reforming next to whichever columns is threatened."
Boulder turns and looks at the xeno god. "So there! We meet again!" Chop! Chop! "Count yourself lucky, I'm busy!"
Dalan pales, and turns off Overwatch to focus fire on the column. "BOULDER GET OUT OF THERE!!" The column shorts out, but the beast unleashes its dark energy on the beserker, frying him badly. Several xeno soldiers and scitterlings race out eagerly, smelling blood to swarm the beserker as he casually swings at each one, his axe biting in counter attack after counter attack, his shield deflecting some of the damage.
"Tis merely a flesh wound!" Boulder laughs. "On to the next. My suit's building up heat though. I have enough to reach the perimeter, just enough."
The rest of the team realizes the peril Boulder is in, though. He doesn't have enough speed, and there are still six more xeno's converging on his and Dalan's position. The engineer, scout, everyone runs to the north, punching and shooting at everything that moves, and taking hits so Boulder's lineage could be preserved.
"Vae Victus!"
It was a close call, too close. The overheating alone could have killed him. But he survived.
Now, unified, they turned to the last pillar. With only one direction to go, they were able to concentrate with unanimous force, leading the dragonspear charge faster than any xeno behind them could catch up, and hitting hard and fast.
The Extermination protocol was complete.
