Mind if I ask why? ST4X is one of my favorite games I've seen on mobile. If not another Star Traders 4x....maybe one set in the World of Steel? I agree with fallen here. If you look at games like Gal Civ, Stars! and Pax Imperia -- 4X games I really loved, you'll find that an important setting is non-hostile life beyond humans, which isn't a feature of the ST universe. In Star Traders, it is humans and things that wish to kill / enslave / eat humans. Those are the two groups. Diplomacy between them is impossible. I'd rather make a whole new 4X setting than break Star Trader's continuity and establish alien races capable or willing to participate in a diplomatic setting.
Why not encounter new races (capable of diplomacy) on the "frontier" ? This way you're not stuck solely in the original ST confines.
The possible intrigues, covert Ops and political maneuvering with the core ST IP seems quite attractive to me. The galactic level mechanics that could be extrapolated from ST RPG conflicts and cooperative states could make such a game as good or better than most 4 x games currently available.
The existing hostile Xenos could be treated like Antarans in MOO 2.
New sentient species (met on the frontier) could have a variety of behaviors that may be friendly, hostile or indifferent to Humans. They could also be made into playable races.
Not trying to twist your arm on your own IP - just clarifying what I had in mind when I put in my original 2 cents.

Simply put, because this does not fit in the Star Traders universe setting. We are not going to irrevocably break the universe to add a feature to ST 4X. As Cory mentioned, next time we would pick a different setting that allowed it. ST RPG setting is used in 4 (soon to be 5) of our games. It is too valuable to break for a single feature.

I wholeheartedly agree. Having another race or races that aren't hostile kind of breaks the bleak, humanity is on its own, do what needs to be done tones of the setting.

Thank you for clarifying the limitations of your vision for the ST universe. I was not previously aware that it hinged on such strictly defined confines. Well - sometimes flexibility is not all that it is cracked up to be and a conservative stance is best.
I'm looking forward to what you come up with when (or if) you return to the 4x space arena.
One other quick question:
Have you guys ever played around with the idea of making a Planetary 4x game? (examples being Alpha Centauri, Civ BE, Pandora First Contact etc)
There's (surprisingly) very few quality titles on this subject at the moment. So it would be great if quality developers such as yourself would entertain the possibility ....
