Who's Valent? lol I took the south fork out of Riven Field and know nothing about what's going on in the Braeys story. I do remember that a Koda son went to Braeys but I haven't heard anything more than that he went. Can I go to Granthorn yet or am I better off going north first? Someone to rescue, he's the Koda son. I'd've thrown him back in his cell to think about his baditude (bad attitude) after being rescued, if I were given the option. I'd of let him out again after he apologized for being a bit touchy and dickish... I wonder about killing all the captures next time, but leaving him to rot... I have a hard time not choosing the 'hero's' path though. Children do need their manners though! 😈 Spoilers man, spoilers! He hasn't gone through that area before!

Haha! No worries here for spoilers. I'm the kind of guy who DVR's my favorite sports teams, finds out who wins, and only then decides whether I'm going to watch them or not. I've got about $64k in gold. Plus I could probably get another $5-$10k from gear if I needed to. I have a hard time selling things I may actually need. Plus, I'm sure I'll get another few k on the way to Granthorn. Is that enough? Actually, who cares. I'm going to go that way either way.... :-) Thanks for the input! I hate walking around completely blind. I like to actually KNOW I'm doing things in somewhat the correct order rather than guessing and having to go back.

Okay, decision time. I've now done pretty much everything on the Episode 2 map. The only thing I haven't done is the Gholla thing. I think my party mentioned it in passing as where Vraes's family is from or something but I don't see anything on my quest log. Is that something I can do before I go to Ember? I've got Banishment 6 right now and I'd kind of like to get it to at least 7 (preferably even higher) for the larger area of effect. I'm sure there will be some fighting on my way to the city so I will probably be close either way but if there is something else I could do, I'd rather. Especially since I'm in Braeyshaulm right now so I'm right there. The other question I have is in regards to my quest log. The decision of which banner I enter the city under says episode 3. Am I done with Episode 2? Also, I've been leaning towards fighting under the Koda banner because way back when I had to decide which way to go out of Riven Field I think one of my guys said something about Koda having spears and Braeys having swords or something like that. Anyway, I'd really like to get a nice spear for Vraes. Will this decision affect my gear? Now that I've done both sides, I kind of like Braeys better but....if it means giving up a spear, Koda it will be. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you! PS. Also, I'd appreciate it if you all quit coming up with cool, new, and exciting builds. I'm 250hrs into this run through and every time I read these pages it makes me want to start over with new people.... just sayin'....

dagger - about half way through Episode 2, things get fluid and you can do most subquests at any time you want. That includes Gholla. You can go up there now or later. I always suggest going up before going into the City of the Dead, for the XP and rewards. The quest log for E3 means your right on the doorstep. The comment about swords / spears actually relates to the smiths in each respective town. Each family is able to provide slightly better weaponry of one type than the other. It does not relate to the potential rewards of choosing one family over the other.

Nice! Thank you! I couldn't wait so I'm in Gholla now. I'm glad I'm not screwing anything up. While you're here, I have a quick comment. People on here talk about Phalanx Shield a lot. I've got it to 10 and it's awesome. But, what I didn't know was that you actually have to carry a shield to use it. I had the thought of duel-wielding Vraes and my first battle had the unpleasant surprise that it wouldn't let me cast it. It makes sense but, like I said, I didn't realize it basically locks you into using 1-handed weapons. Not sure if that's worth mentioning in the Talent description or not but I thought I'd mention it. I'm having a blast! This game rocks and you guys are all super helpful! Thanks for your quick responses. Like I said at the end of my last post, I can't wait to finish this run so I can start a new one. The worst part is deciding who you're going to play with. I want to try the other characters. I've read good things about all of them. But I really like the party I've got! Decisions, decisions.....

The crazy thing is that you're only about half-way through.

dagger - I believe that the description of Phalanx Shield mentions that it requires a shield?

fallen Well then maybe you should put it in BOLD letters. Or I could just learn to read..... @contributor Halfway?!? Seriously? Do the battles get any shorter? I'm starting to think I shouldn't care so much about dying and just wade in. I've got 7 deaths (although 3 of them came from the first time since I didn't know how the retry vs restore worked and it smoked me twice before I restored. Only one so far is non-stealth related so I'll be changing that little statistic on future playthroughs... By the way, Gholla is a grind. No deaths so far but I've downed a few potions. I made the mistake of taking a break before I started the battle and when I got back into the game it had put the black fog back over the battlefield. I had made sure I Far-sighted everything so I could see where they were coming from but, like I said, it re-covered everything when I quit. Those damn hounds made things nip-and-tuck for a while....

dagger - the siege is a real bear of a battle, but great XP. Enjoy the challenge and good luck! The game is long...

dagger when playing for the story, totally don't worry about deaths. They'll be plenty of time to take another slower run for higher score (fewer deaths) or ironmanning (no deaths) if your life doesn't get too hectic to play. Lots of parties to try.

I'm not worried about the time. In fact, that's a plus in my book. I love the combat and that each battle is it's own puzzle to solve. The 30-45min back-to-back-back battles get a little long but it does feel good to get them done. I only wish there were a little more XP involved when you get those long ones but...I'm sure you guys have extremely valid reasons for the way you have it set up and, as I've said before, I'm no coder. The balance seems perfect to me on hard. I'm looking forward to bumping up another level on the next run (which I'm sure will mean even longer battles if I'm trying not to die). Well, back to the siege. I can't get any further if I'm talking to you... I'm sure I'll be back with another question/progress report soon. Speaking of that.....I think I might try to write up my party to see if anyone has some insights into where I need to go with them next. I've read a bunch of these threads and I think I've got a pretty good set up so far but I'm getting to the point where I've basically fulfilled my initial plan and I now need to re-think where I want to take my people next. The last couple of level ups have been more immediate need based rather than future oriented and I feel like I might get myself in trouble if I don't get a better plan in place. Thanks again for your help...

I see there was another update. I opened the game to play and noticed that the numbers looked funny when I was checking how much more XP I needed to level up. Imagine my surprise when I hit my number and all of a sudden all four characters popped up on the screen at once. Nice!
Keeping with the UI theme....a suggestion I have would be to try to make the gear more organized. First and foremost (and maybe the quickest and easiest short-term fix) would be to put a slider on the right side of the screen so you could scroll down by holding the mouse on it. I've got like 50 or more different pieces of gear and by the time I get to the capes/cloaks at the bottom I've forgotten what my guys are wearing so I have to mousewheel all the way back up again and start over. Like I said, that would probably be the easiest.
Ideally, you would split the screen and show what gear is equipped the entire time you're scrolling through the rest of it so you could compare and switch without ever having to scroll back to the top.
In a perfect world, you would have some kind of "sort" function so you could click on "Accuracy" and all gear with accuracy buffs would be grouped and displayed. Another category would be HP, SP drain, crit, etc... That way, if you're looking to max stealth or fire damage or whatever, you would have all the gear with that buff right in one group. Obviously, that would probably be a fairly major undertaking but....since I was brainstorming, I thought I'd mention it.
Regardless, I'm having a ton of fun with this game. Things have slowed considerably for me as I'm doing a bunch of the sidequests before heading to Ember. It was a long slog back to Riven Field from the Storm Bastion. Each screen re-spawned and, while none of the fights were as difficult as the first time through, they still were rather time-consuming. I didn't want to waste potions so I ended up micromanaging each battle and not using the normal debuffs so I could get enough SP drain to keep my main guys self-sufficient. That's not a complaint. Just a fact. It will be interesting to see how my party performs when it goes back into the "real" world and I'm fighting things that can actually hit me again. I'm starting with the Darkmoss Underswamps which I'm assuming are going to be full of nasty Krete. I have a feeling that is not going to be pleasant. Fun, but difficult.
And, while I'm at it, a couple of questions. I've been getting some pretty nice gear on my way to the Storm Bastion but.....am I ever going to find some better knives for Tamilin and/or a better spear for Vraes? I've been stuck on the same ones for probably 6 or 7 levels. I'm now at level 31 and Vraes has a Keen Partisan 2AP 7ACC 6Parry 47-59. Tamilin has the Segmented Knives 1AP 23-44 7ACC 3Parry. I DID find an awesome bow...Argronwood 3AP 14ACC 45-118 + 22 Fire dmg at 7 range. Unfortunately, I really use Tamilin to de-buff the enemies with her Torrent of Steel so I don't get to use it much. I've only got Ranged Onslaught at one and I'm still in the process of running up Deadly Intuition to at least 5 (4 right now) and I want Blacknight at 8 (also 4 right now) so I've got a ways to go before it really would come in handy. In fact, by the time it does, I'll probably be on to bigger and better things. Up over 300 hrs now...I hope I finish by spring... :-)
Oh, and I just noticed you have all the buffs on your guy when you scroll over him. Also, little numbers to show when curses are ending (Awesome!). Any chance you could add the total HP and SP there as well? So Vraes is fully juiced at 1050HP and 325SP. Instead of just showing what he's at, show 838/1050HP and 216/325SP. Otherwise, the only way to see that is to hit "R" and pull up his stats or else you can scroll in between his "bars" in the lower left corner and that will show it as well. The problem with that latter solution is that I've actually done that quite a few times and it's caused my game to crash for some reason at least four or five times so far. Not since this update, obviously, but as recently as earlier this week.
I'm playing again this morning and I've run into a small bug that's happened a few times throughout the game. Occasionally when I've finished a battle but I haven't ended my turn, I'll move one of my guys with movement points left to either explore or line them up for buffs or whatever. Anyway, like I said, occasionally I'll uncover a chest or bloodstone or whatever in that final run around and it will disappear my end turn button. The battle music keeps playing and it will also lock all of my people who had zero movement/action points left in place. I can freely move anyone who still had a point of some sort left but, as happened just now in the Underswamps, Kjartan was the only person left with movement. The work around has been to glom the group and then put the person who can move as leader until you find a new battle and then everything resets. It hasn't been a problem except this time, I didn't want Kjartan finding a bunch of Krete and taking the initial beating (which he probably wouldn't survive). I ran my party back to the camp to see if that would unlock them. It didn't. I then quit out of the game and restarted it and that solved it. I didn't try quitting immediately when it happened so that might/would probably work too but....again, it happened so I thought I would mention it. Thank you!

dagger - good suggestion on min/max HP and SP. I can work on including those in the hovers. As you can see, we are working our way through the game's UI and making both functional (new features) and cosmetic (more pretty) improvements. You're suggestions about the Gear listing are pretty well timed, considering! The question about throwing knives and spears are just dependent on your loot drops. Such weapon types are available in pretty much every area, but the loot tables are big and if you aren't getting lucky then you might go through some droughts for a while. I think that is where the upcoming crafting system will be really helpful. For the moment, you'd just craft a new spear to fill the gap until you could find / buy / acquire something better!
