Maybe long press on screen to navigate ship so if short tapping other buttons will not accidentally navigate?

Huge second for the long press to navigate on the map. Double tap would work too, but can lead to constantly tap and miss the same square (HoS and ST4X come to mind, especially when zoomed out). Especially given that there are no square borders yet...

If/when we get long press working, it will be reserved for implementing a data pop-out like hovers.
Certainly, since we're not using the tile system we can implement the tap-to-confirm differently.
If people want to slow down the moving system, we will consider that but only after we have a chance to test the game with a working HUD.
Saying "we must have X" right now isn't really viable because none of the support infrastructure is in place.
It very well may be a requirement, and we have time in the budget to address it if it becomes an issue, but right now we're just a bit early to make that call.
