I want to know how far this is away, before I take it. Ideally, I want a map that shows where I would be going as well.

IVE REMEMBERED WHY I WANTED TO SEE MISSIONS FROM THE STATUS SCREEN
Ahem, sorry about that.
When deciding if you want to take on a mission, it's always good to check if it's en-route/in the same direction as ongoing missions, so that way I know if I can make all the deadlines in time.

I want to know how far this is away, before I take it. Ideally, I want a map that shows where I would be going as well. When mission is offered click the navigate button and it will give a quick pop up of how many jumps you need to make for mission. If it's to far away just hit the back button and then see if the contact has another mission to offer.

I mean, you can get it by clicking the waypoint button ... but it should say how far away it is. We might be able to add a map view, that's a future iteration.

We are going to add the distance in text below each mission. While you can get the distance to the first step today (helpful) there is no detail about later steps. It is on our list to add, hopefully next update.

Would be nice to know the name of the system and planet. Perhaps even the name of the city we need to go to. Doesn't make any difference you know two missions will need 4 jumps each if they are in opposite directions.
Would also be nice to be able to consult a galaxy map to help a captain plan his missions. Would you take trip to a city that was 5 states away without googling the route first?

I really want to make multi-step trade missions by tapping each destination on a map. <tap1, tap2, tap3, tap4> "Multi-stage course plotted, captain". Now I can fly around looking for unknown planets, or decide to spend some time blockading due to a brand new Solar War breaking out, but should I want to navigate, it's off to first destination in whatever multi-stage course I have plotted. (possibly with my navigator screaming 'ye dunna have the water-fuel fer that, mate!! ) Next best would be to have a list of destinations where you could make insertions, but, gack, I think that would be even more difficult to implement than a map. It's not as if I am only doing trading, or only doing missions, or only seeing what is up with my buddy the politician.

I think you will have to settle for a bookmark system here. Navigation is only scoped to have a single destination and the best available path to it (across many quadrants and gates.)
Bookmarks will let you record, annotate, sort and navigate to user defined places. I hope that is enough.

The other issue is about context -- providing you information about gates (and the destination quads) as well as the current quad in a very convenient fashion. Do I have a mission here? Do I have Contacts?
We'll do our best!

Both of those points are good.
I'd actually love a bookmark system, as it would be really helpful for me to keep track of trade routes.

Bookmarks will let you record, annotate, sort and navigate to user defined places. I hope that is enough. I think this will only be enough if I can save the list of places I want to visit, and the order I want to visit them, and get some sort of idea as to how long things take, and where it is I plan to be at such-and-such a time. And, of course, the ability to modify such a list. Then it doesn't really matter all that much if the navigation system itself isn't multi-hop aware. But if I cannot visit someplace, discover that somebody there wants me to deliver a bunch of X to Y, and be able to think, aha, I plan on being in the same system that Y is in anyway, working this job in will be easy -- or, no way friend, by the time you need these things delivered I plan on being on the other side of the galaxy from where you want me to be ... I want to do contraint analysis on the basis of all the destinations I want to fit in 'the foreseeable future', whatever that turns out to be.
