i love the cyberpunk genre. this is so much like shadowrun on the genesis and i cant get enough of it. just a few questions as a newb player. are there any differences in elite and free? bought elite and just curious. also, as a newb player, what should be my first concerns when starting a new game? build up my nuyen and upgrade equipment? who should i work for? and a major question, on such a big play map, where should i be based out of? thanks to anyone who cares to answer. love this game. skimmed through to get a feel. starting a new game with a gunslinger and gonna get to grinding.

1:The diff between elite and free is equip and character choice.
2:Yes
3:Whoever you want and wherever you would like,if you find a connector that is a ladder connector such as Victor or Texas Powers you can work for them for a while to get some rewards other than just rep and money
Its a big sandbox, explore and figure out what suits you best....though you may want to be more careful if playing a mode where you can permanently die...then stick with Streets, Los Val, and Fennian areas to start with.

Hi alkaline, get the elite, it's at a good price now. I've run through about five characters at normal level. You should try to get decent armour and guns. I try to get the Raptor II as soon as I can. Decent range and it knocks out most of the annoying punks in one punch. You could do some simple jobs for Vinny first and then work your way up. Took different approaches for my various characters. In fact, I have a gunslinger who is at war with all the factions in the game, but that is rather late on after he has levelled to a point when he is god in all the street fights. I would recommend trying to work for Bravestar after you get the hang of the game as well as a nice present for climbing to the top with them. POick up work around the Streets, Los Val and Fennian areas like gravis said for starters. The other factions pack a meaner punch and more lethal encounters. Gunslingers are great for exploring. Though you could try a hacker for a different play experience and you can get rich a lot faster than picking up jobs. Though it doesn't give you experience points, but you can get to buying good equipment and safe houses faster.

Alkaline, try upgrading your body first. You'll need a better body rank in order to increase your strength or dexterity.
Keep staying in different inns and hotels to lower heat. Don't use the same facility consecutively and you could try doing three jobs and then going to ground in an inn.

And,in my opinion,U should frequently move(walking)in LV/STREETS/FENNIAN areas,to collect some encounters...If u play as a Gunslinger,u should beat any punk u meet...=) More XPs,more Ammos,Better chance to find Vchips,Some Paydata to sell...If u choose a NON-FIGHTING class(such as the Hacker,as I do,actually), this strategy doesn't work...Too many Defeats, less XPs('cause if u play this class ur DV must be high, with implants)...And DEATH at high difficulties ;D This Game is awesome for this,U can choose between Fighting or being Diplomatic/Stealthy/Hippie/ecc,ecc,ecc...It's Too SANDBOX =) And with future releases robbing/hacking will be more deep and functional...Oh god gimme a release XD

The first thing you need to acquire is a computer that holds more than 1 job. This will make your earn roughly twice as much money in the same time, assuming that when you take jobs you wait for two connected to the same area. Don't take any assassination or capture jobs until you have a rifle, better armour, and the skills to use them well. Stick to packages and message delivery.
About heat -- you need to sleep it off in hotels, or safehouses -- so buying safehouses in an area where you want to operate is a good cost saving measure. Right now I have a setup that is ideal for this -- I own 2 safehouses, the Small Apartment building and the Dirty House in the Back Bay slums. So you phone Vinny the Rat, and accept jobs delivering messages and packages in the Knight Horizon area. Turns out they are nearly all in the Back Bay. Since my computer holds 3 jobs, I take 3. Then go make your deliveries. If the heat gets hot, sleep in one of your safehouses. If it is still hot, try the other one. You can sleep in the Bay Bay Mission hotel, too.
Eventually you will make the KH angry with you. Head to Refuse to Loose[sic] or the Moon Room Club in Boston Harbour or Old Bridge, and take jobs for KH until they are friendly with you again, which doesn't take long, they are most forgiving.
best of luck, Grävling
