Currently, someone armed with a pistol can also equip a Kukri in the offhand. Bug or feature? The Kukri is actually usable in combat too. Presumably a Swordsman/BH officer could use both weapon-type skills, although I have not tried yet.
Side note: Pistols are depicted held in the left hand by default, but the game also wants to put the Kukri in the left hand (offhand) and can't, so it doesn't show up. I once switched the pistol to a rifle, and the Kukri image popped up underneath the rifle image, like a bayonet. Unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot and haven't been able to replicate it...

There is a trait for being able to use 2 weapons, device freak, officer/captain only

so if I have a swordsman with the trait gadget freak, it is basically wasted on him?

I don't really know what Gadget Freak does. I had an officer and captain with that trait, but could only equip one enhancement chip. Never saw a second item slot available.
Note, everyone can dual-wield pistol + short sword, not just someone with Gadget Freak.

Gadget Freak is an Officer only trait that allows that individual if made an officer to equip 2 of the special gear types some contacts sell. Note those gears go into a special gear slot all officers/captain have and give various buffs to character like +4 quickness/+4initiative. Being able to equip 2 of them on a charecter could make them extremely potent in crew combat etc. |
