I really don't think we're talking about the same thing at all. But I'm happy to let this drop if you are certain I'm wrong. Like I said, what do I know

You were saying. A lower level ship most of the time will be destroyed by a higher level enemy ship. I do agree with that. I just showed proof of low level ships not being destoryed when faced against a higher level ship because of out gunning the enemy ship. But you are correct. The levels matter. The same torpedo or gun on a lvl 3 ship will hit while on a level 2 it might not. 50/50. We're both right.

I didn't think the OP was asking about enemy ships tho. Those are not the same number scale. Enemy ships have "Rating" and player ships have "Level"
Thanks!

Poster here. I see the discussion took a different turn.
Here.s what i observed related to the recent doscussion: ship levels give a good base hp and fuel increase. I could not test any accuracy related stuff, but if ony the stats affect the accuracy, it is possible to have a low level ship be as accurate as a higher lvl ship by maxing out the speciffic stats.
I usually do that as soon as I get fast reactor 5 and boarding ships. I max evasion and focus on warrior, pilot and stealth for my boarding ships. The result is a tanky boarding ship that will be useful for a lobg time because of the debuff.
Then i make a few fighters with max guns that will be very likely to hit and I micro them. In and out of fight. They will be very useful later, with tons of xp since they will crit from time to time.
Whirlwind II i think is the highest damage weapon for fighters any way, so the only next step is to get crews for damage or higher level heavy barrage, but even then, my old little ships can do some work.
