I've been lurking here for a while and thought it was about time to introduce myself. I'm Mark Boudreaux, and I've been a Cyber Punk since the genre began, I wore out 3 Commodore 64's in the 80's before I got my first PC. Anyone remember Mars Saga? I just wanted to say I love this game. I mean I loved it before the bars and clubs started to come to life. Now, I really love this game. My character is sort of a Bounty Hunter/Information Broker. I'd like to see some Bounty Hunter Jobs; an Assassinate/Capture job in which they don't know where the target is hiding. They can tell you where he was last seen and you start there to get clues to pick up the trail. It would be a long term mission if it had any expiration date at all. I have one more suggestion. It seems unusual that you have Samurais running around with machine guns without a sword anywhere in the game. I want to be able to pull out a wakizashi to finish the job when I'm doing an assassination for the Yakuza. It wouldn't be much different than the hand weapons we currently have. Maybe it could add a couple of stealth points to your exit. Attachments:

Welcome to the forum, and grats on the bravery of of leaving the safety of "lurking" Your job idea is great,as far as I know Cory is working on multi staged missions, I hope the bounty hunt is one of em....I'd love to sweat/beat information out of people to find a target. You are definatly not alone on the sword thing brother!

"It wouldn't be much different than the hand weapons we currently have."
Except that it requires unique artwork for the attack frames, the active frame and new artwork for the equipment. It also requires additional weapon types, damage codes and logic to keep swords from being equipped by characters who lack the necessary artwork or code elements to support using them.
I understand that these are the technical challenges that I have to deal with but the current "lack of swords" is not strictly an issue related to the nonavailability of the artwork or the time allocated to add logic to support them.
To believe that the wakizashi is even a possibility makes a huge assumption about the game world. I doubt the ability to blacksmith or produce a workable sword blade exists in our game world of 2217. Did you know that today, globally, there are only approximately 600 or so people who can produce, by hand, combat grade bladed weapons?
Perhaps in the end my vision for Cyber Knights will fail because it does not include swords. If that is the case I will be able to say that I remained true to what I saw as the correct path for the game and in the end that will be the most important thing to me.

Artist to the end eh? Very respectable Cory.
I doubt the lack of swords will factor into succes or failure of your game, it will do without it if that's your wish...but chainsaw swords is another thing alltogether! ;D

Gawd you should hear the arguments when Andrew, Martin and I all try to lay claim to the same piece of artistic integrity. It gets heated =)

We are definitely already working on this. It will actually be a specific job type called Locate/Surveillance. It will require moving from Region to Region gathering clues until the true hiding location of the target is uncovered. Once located, the mission will convert to a high paying Capture job. There are a number of additional Electronic gadgets that I am waiting on production before this goes life. I think your broker / hunter will like it very much. Another thing you'll really enjoy is the upcoming changes to the Paydata market. Variable pay out rates, back room brokers and the ability to buy, sell and trade paydata!

I was pretty well aware of the programming challenges that both of my suggestions present. It wasn’t something I was expecting to see in the next update. I do concede that the lack of a sword will have little effect on the success of the game. I look forward to seeing the multi staged missions. I’ve already sold quite a bit of Paydata in the back rooms. It’s just one of the reasons I love the new bar scene.

I cropped my Wakizashi picture (https://sites.google.com/site/boudreaux27514/wakizashi/Wakizashi002.jpg) down to 100 X 85 and tried to set it up as my avatar and it is not working. Do I need it in a format other than .jpg? I don’t get any error messages, it just goes away.

I have no problem with the concept of no swords in the game. It just seems all the more weird to have a class called CyberSword though.

True but maybe cyberswords are named after the cyber sword, better known as the chainsaw sword! ;D
Still can't help myself...
Though I'm sure being called a cybersword is a metaphor for a warrior who is in your face requiring no projectiles to be absolutely deadly...like a sword I suppose.

Perhaps, it's the equivalent of a cybernetic sellsword (see: www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sellsword ). Since humans are known for being lazy, even in the linguistics department, shortening both words to a singular word that is universally understood would be very possible in the future portrayed by CK.
