I got an email offer about penis enlargement last week, but I thought it sounded kinda shady. Does that count? Only if it guarantees a +30(meter scale)...=) Seriously,I think it depends from 2 things... 1)the class...EG A hacker needs implants more than a Sniper... 2)Game style...Implants help to stay alive in so many battles, giving us Stats/Skills modifiers...At the beginning, maybe they are optional...But In challenging missions and challenging battles they are a +% to survive... My idea,eh =) Slide

Still, if we're going to see more cyber, it'd be interesting to see how cory will try to wreck/enhance our playstyles...
Imagine you getting a dermal armor/sheathing that adds tons to your defense, but due to you having much less fine motor control/skin sensitivity, it drops your firearms and brawling a few notches?
Skillchips/headware that crank your combat skills or AP up to superhuman levels, but drop your negotiation and intimidate to the floor?
Gunlinks that are focused on closer or farther ranges, giving additional bonuses and penalties as such?
Pistol/rifle implanted cyberweapons that somehow reduce your heat, but prevent you from equipping other weapons in that 'hand'? (Hello Samus/Megaman!)
New ammo/weapon types that deal microwave/emp damage, causing your implants to go dead and need to be replaced/repaired?
Flare compensators that actually do something?

As the game advances and gets more difficult, Cyberware will be more and more of a necessisty. Right now you can get by without it. In the next release you'll start to crave speed, wires, boosters. After that a non-stop march of updates and features will drive your characters back to the cybertech, time and time again Any chance of implants similar to final fantasy?like for example,an implant that will cause you to automatically use a health pak when damaged?

Hmmm in a world of adavnced nanotechnology I don't know if I'm all about penaltys on cyberware We already take xp penalties as we cyber ourselves out. Wich in the long run seriously hurts you. I am for special weapons that damages cyberware because that just makes sense to have a counter weapon for overpowerd cyborgs. Down time for bonuses from hurt cyberware or cost for repair is good to me. I'm not for the current dermal plating causing dex penalties, its something you have with you day in day out from taking a shower to jogging...but if it was high enough to replace the need for combat armor then it would sound balanced. If we had eyeware that offered bonuses at one range and penaltys at others..it would be like fixing crappy lenses to your eyes...current imaging technology tech beats that...so such a thing would have to be crappy street doc ware. Replaceing a hand with a cyber weapon sounds pretty damn cool, but why would you be crazy enough to do that? If you lost your hand you could just get a new one to hold a weapon...the cyberweapon for a hand trade off would have to be pretty damn powerful to tempt a somewhat sane person. Just my thoughts

Yeah there are some interesting ideas in there.
Don't worry -- I have been an obsessive ShadowRun GM for over 20 years.
For the CK game system, we have a list of 45 yet-do-be-completed cyberware implants and the list keeps growing based on these awesome posts!

A minigun grafted onto your arm that has insane speed? And a knight could get both hands done. I'd love that.

@cory. I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but I was/am such a ShadowRun fan that either right before or just after 3rd ...I modified the old 2nd edition rules to convert right into White Wolf's Storyteller (original system)...
if you thought your Troll Street Sam was a badass, all cybered up and tough; the eye opener was running into a full Ahroun Get of Fenris. or even worse...on a run you and the group accidently stumble into a coven of Sabbat Brujah .
as for cybernetics: those were my favourite parts of SR. I had a great many Tech manuals for cybernetics.

Transhumanism is a term used synonymously to mean “human enhancement.” It is an international cultural and intellectual movement that endorses the use of science and technology to enhance the human condition, both mentally and physically. In support of this, transhumanism also embraces using emerging technologies to eliminate the undesirable elements of the human condition such as aging, disabilities, diseases, and involuntary death. Many transhumanists believe these technologies will be arriving in our near future at an exponentially accelerated pace and work to promote universal access to and democratic control of such technologies. In the long scheme of things, transhumanism can also be considered the transitional period between the current human condition and an entity so far advanced in capabilities (both physical and mental faculties) as to merit the label “posthuman.” As a theme, transhumanism embraces heady questions. What defi nes human? What does it mean to defeat death? If minds are software, where do you draw the line with programming them? If machines and animals can also be raised to sentience, what are our responsibilities to them? If you can copy yourself, where does “you” end and someone new begin? What are the potentials of these technologies in terms of both oppressive control and liberation? How will these technologies change our society, our cultures, and our lives?
^^ NOT MINE, BUt I totally agree.

I prefer the SR2 world view of Shadowrun.
Magic is rare (less than 1%) and the world is harsh.
I prefer long (100-200 sessions) campaigns for SR3 but at this point it has been hard for me to find the time and people willing to make that commitment.

I see your cyberpunk writing and I post this (my original work) in response: Cyberpunk is a science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life." Cyberpunk works are well situated within postmodern literature. The term Postmodern literature is used to describe certain characteristics of post-World War II literature (relying heavily, for example, on fragmentation, paradox, questionable narrators, etc.) and a reaction against Enlightenment ideas implicit in Modernist literature. Modernistic art and literature normally revolved around the idea of individualism, mistrust of institutions (government, religion), and the disbelief of any absolute truths. Some of the characteristic features of this kind of fiction are the mingling and juxtaposition of the realistic and the fantastic or bizarre, skillful time shifts, convoluted and even labyrinthine narratives and plots, miscellaneous use of dreams, myths and fairy stories, expressionistic and even surrealistic description, arcane erudition, the element of surprise or abrupt shock, the horrific and the inexplicable hyperreality. Hyperreality is used in semiotics and postmodern philosophy to describe a hypothetical inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from fantasy, especially in technologically advanced postmodern cultures. Much of the genre's atmosphere echoes film noir, and written works in the genre often use techniques from detective fiction. "Classic cyberpunk characters were marginalized, alienated loners who lived on the edge of society in generally dystopic futures where daily life was impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body." – Lawrence Person Cyberpunk depicts the world as a dark, sinister place with networked computers dominating every aspect of life. Giant, multinational corporations have for the most part replaced governments as centers of political, economic, and even military power. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunken.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodern_literatureen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modernist_literatureen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperrealityen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Pynchonen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Vonneguten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Personen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megacorporationen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_noirYah, I really take writing these games serious. Thanks for reading.
