Suggest ideas for barks! Especially, what would a Faction X say when arriving on their own world? Cadar crew: "Nothing says home like the bristling weapon systems of a Cadar world." Maybe the bark should be different if the crewman hates his own faction? I'll try to make negative versions of some suggestions. Cadar (negative): "Ugh... the limitless militarism we see here is exactly what I went to space to avoid." Steel Song: "Most foreigners who look at the Song only see the assassin cults and mercenaries. They'll never know the real Steel Song." Steel Song (negative/sarcastic): "A Steel Song world? Great. I really missed the feeling of having to constantly watch my back." De Valtos: "Glad we landed somewhere with a decent standard of living." Moklumnue: "I've heard about this part of the trade network." Moklumnue (negative): "You think Moklumnue is interested in trade? No, the truth is they are just interested in control." Alta Mesa: "Alta Mesa's achievements are best appreciated from space... but I do miss their urban zones."

resistor - thanks. Yep, the barks are different if depending on the character's faction vs. the world/system. Pulled a few good ones of there, great suggestions!

"Nobody appreciates a good mechanic till they take a torp in the chest."
The above come from "You don't know the value of your backside till you get a boil on it."
"There's no teaching an old spacer to drink gin." -Or the gin part could be replaced with any number of things, "...dance in a grav well"?
"Haven't they heard of "Don't shoot the messenger!""
"They say a Zenrin never forgets." -Said by non-Zenrin in a Zen zone.
"They say that all the original Zendu were from clan Zenrin." -Said by Zenrin when arriving at their zone.
"Lookout for snakes in the grass." -Said by others when arriving in Rychart zones
"A single finger can't pick up a pebble." -Not sure who would say this.
"You can't become a Noble overnight." - Thulun Proverb?
"Even the fly waits for the shit to hit the ground." -Something said where people poop outdoors a lot, when the kids are being too impatient.
"A dirty secret is like fresh meat. As soon as it rots everyone can smell it." -Rychart Proverb
"If you raise one hand saying 'I don't need anyone!' you must raise the other saying 'Nobody needs me!'" -What faction is the least Independent?
"No matter how long a log floats in the water, it doesn't become a crocodile." - Yeah probably doesn't apply here.
"You can know the stars and you can know the markets, but knowing yourself is best of all." - Not sure the use, but it sounds really wise.
"It's the snake that hides, that grows old." -Another Rychart proverb?

Devaltos "You know I think I sold my grandmother here" Cadar "Have you ever wondered just how many weapon systems are locked onto us right now?" Cadar "I hope we find a pirate I hope we find a pirate I hope we find a pirate ..." Cadar "We've entered orbit - permission to press the big red button?" Cadar "Orbit achieved. I'm just going down to the armory to let our torps know they are home, Captain" Devaltos "Err captain, I might have accidentally sold you and your ship when we last landed here."

Was thinking about some more environmental barks
"More sandstorms! We just finished repainting the hull!"
"Hurricane force winds, all day every day. Dial up your grav boots and stay together."
"A liquid methane sea, should I pack my suit?"
"Everyone quiet! A whole hive went down here along with everyone on board." -Maybe for magma worlds with orbital zones?
"The silicate pots here are one of the great wonders of this quadrant."
Then some Highbrow, Snob, Thulun etc. barks "Ugh, these people live like savages." -Maybe for Indy planets or low econ planets.
"What these people consider food! I never thought I'd long for ship rations."
"I don't know how long the productive planets/factions can support places like this." -Moklumnue or DeValtos visiting anywhere with lower econ?
"What a real education could do for a place like this." -Thulun visiting anywhere?
"A real Prince could turn this planet into something worth visiting."
"A little industry could really turn this place around." -Javat visiting somewhere
"I never imagined people could live in such squalor"
"A whole planet without any mores, who let that happen?" -Thulun again?
"This whole planet offends my nose."
"They don't even know what real toilettes are here!"
"They say that some people are simply cut out for servitude."
"I could never feel safe in a place like this." -Low military/gov worlds?
"These people are just asking to be invaded." -Maybe Steel Song/Cadar/Alta Mesa on low mil/gov/s.port worlds?

Killer! Snob and Classically Trained got some great treatment from this set It's easy if you happen to know the right (er wrong) people. There's a whole wealth of barks if you just take "Faction X could... on this planet" A little DeValtos investment could turn this place into a boom town. Alta Mesa could teach these hacks a thing or two about ship building. If Steel Song had this world we could make it an impenetrable fortress. Etc etc etc

Interesting stuff. I will be careful with it and hopefully focus less the spacer being fascinated by the concept of their Faction taking over the world. As the laws are very strict about planet ownership, I think comments like "this place is just waiting to be invaded" to be misleading about the game's lore and the Laws of Shalun. Thanks for all the stuff -- a lot of it is straight into the game!

That's probably good to keep in mind. I wasn't thinking of them that way, but I see how they could give a certain impression. I'm mostly just thinking of the way we all tend to criticize things based on what is most important to us. I'm sure you guys have never run into this developing games though.
Maybe "These guys are just asking to get invaded if the Xeno ever come back in force."

might be good to put barks when taking health/morale hits (cause related)
"Why does the captain run the fuel so low, it's so dangerous to retrieve ice from deep space" "When are we getting out of this radiation storm? This sector makes me nauseous" "Sam Hagar just DIED! He was a good pilot"

This sector makes me nauseous" "Sam Hagar just DIED! He was a good pilot" Yeah something like this would be very helpful. Maybe even have some barks for major events in the event log.
