I was wondering if there was a suggested episode for all the sub quests. Also is there a definite starting point for episodes 3 and 4 as there is for Ep2?
I returned to Brunehorn following City of the Dead to be directed to Granthorn. I visited Bone pass after the Werewolf quest (fang?) only to discover the new quest (storm brothers?) enemies are levels below my characters.
I have checked the map thread which makes total sense until episode 4. Any suggestions would be appreciated for those completion issues and a quest with lesser enemies and loot isn't very exciting.
Thanks for an awesome, seemingly never ending game.
PS. Has anyone tried to play this game the shortest way through--just main story plot? Do you end up with underpowered characters by end game? What levels have you finished with?

@gr8tscott - once your reach E2 most things are pretty open. There are a few quests (Storm Brothers, Fang [yep, werewolf]) that won't start until E3 is started (pick a family).

When exactly does episode 3 start? Episode 4? The Log seems to indicate Ep 4 starts after City of the dead search for Ravenna. Ep 3 seems to begin by entering City of the dead. Gholla outlook seems to be the only thing that can be done before Entering the City. Are my character levels too high for Storm brothers quest simply because I did complete everything before entering CoD?

Episode 3 starts when you accept one family or the other to enter the City of the Dead.
Episode 4 starts after the last major CoD boss fight when you go seeking Ravenna.

Yeah basically as you get later, there is a lot of fluidity in how you do things. The maps show which content is actually considered to be in each episode. So if you do everything listed on one map before starting the other map stuff you should avoid severely over/under-leveling. Of course a lot of those same maps are used in multiple episodes so I can see how it would be confusing. Like Fallen said E2 is everything that can be done before joining a side. E3 is Storm Brothers, Werewolf and COD. E4 begins after the big fight at the end of COD, but you can go back and do unfinished E3 content afterwards too.
I don't know of anybody trying a Minimalist strategy here on the forums. I have to admit I'm curious about the story implications of things like leaving Valent to rot.

I also discovered the levels for the storm brothers quest were fine. Just the Bone pass areas maxed around lvl 35. Also have lvls been checked for a minimalist playthrough? IE. Brunehorn, 1/2 underdeep, 1/2 CoD, Druid to Other world path This seems like it would cut out a bunch of leveling up and would hate to be caught there 10 lvls down with my group.

Gr8Scott - we're happy with the balancing on a minimal play through yes. It can be more challenging at times for sure but we've talked to some players who have reached the City of the Dead on fumes and still made it to E4.
