Just recently (last 2 days) I have been getting, well, sudden drops in morale. There is usually a precipitating evet in the scroll on the right side of the ui. My problem is that there are no apparent warning signs. I can heal and visit the spice halls and everyone is at least 80, and then out of nowhere have 6 or 8 crew ready to jump ship at the next planetfall. I try to hit up any spice halls that are not from my home faction, but often there just aren't any around. The second i touch down on a home faction world i lose 1 to 4 veteran crew members. Playing on hard. Like i said, i wasnt seeing this very often until the last couple of days.
Does anyone have any advice on preventing this phenomenon? I think im probably missing something.

I had one person suddenly drop to low morale AND skip my talent that prevents desertion. I thought it was because I had more than my maximum number of crew (due to a story event.) However, now I'm suspecting a bug...

Nah, neither for me. I cannot reproduce yet. I'm unsure why it would skip my saving talent for that though.

High danger quadrants might be the issue for me. Thats something i havent been checking at all. I know radiation storms will do it, but theyre not always the culprit. Ill start making notes when it happens to see if i can figure it out.

Also be sure to visit high Spice zones. Lower levels can restore some Morale, but not all of it. If you're already on the lower end of crew Morale and you fly into a dangerous area or fail several tests, it can really shake the crew

Lack of Save Talents?

I always stock up on skill saves ea early on and mostly i keep them throughout the game. It definitely appears that the danger rating of quadrants is partly related to the occurences of sudden morale drops. Failed rolls based on doctor, ship ops, an repair are frequently the immediate cause of the drops, and I've seen major improvement when i keep an extra crew member with those skills (and those save skills!) on board. Intimidate is the one that keeps kicking my butt. I tend to roleplay on the goodguy side of things and dont spend a lot of time pirating, etc., so my intimidate pool stays pretty shallow... guess I'll have to make room for a zealot, pirate, bounty hunter type. Or spend my bonus skill points on improving my "icy stare"!

Zealot and Pirate are both great to have around. Depending on if the test if personnel or engineering, damage is allocated between ship, crew health and crew morale. Intimidation fails are often bad for morale first.

Not to mention a fuel cost which can indirectly lead to further morale problems.

I agree it's hard to get intimidate skill saves, and that could be the easiest explanation. I always take pirate as a secondary job on one of the crew for icy stare. For RP, I can say they are a "reformed" pirate. Zealot is another good one espcially if I have a combat crew bladesman officer. I try to have two of all the skill saves as soon as possible, and three doctor. That means I usually hire an extra mechanic, but still intimidate doesn't happen right away.

I think you can also look at the 'safety' of your engine... the lower % means more impact when you fail the tests (at least, I think that's how it works... or maybe it's the checks are harder? lol)

Great info on engine safety rating! It seems that every time I bump up against some difficulty in the game that the factors that are playing a part are much more numerous and varied than I ever would have guessed. I love that! It is so cool to play a game that this deep and complicated. Rather than some arbitrary number, there are always good and well thought out reasons for why things are happening the way they are. I love it.

On Android, how does one review the travel log? It scrolls off the screen pretty fast.
