I was thinking more about the problem that the implants you would like to have cost so much that by the time you can afford them your skills have increased to the point that you no longer need them -- you are doing perfectly fine without. (Or you are dead, but that is a different problem.) My current greatest in-character frustration is all the damage I am taking from roof leaks. I'd be interested in a toxic scrubber for my lungs.
because it takes up room, you cannot breathe deeply with it in. Thus your athletics are reduced to a max of 5, regardless of what they are naturally. AP are also suitably capped. But you don't take damage -- or nearly so much damage -- from toxic fumes. I'd buy it, assuming it was in the 2-4 K Yen range.
What about the rest of you? Would you buy it?

Hi grav =) i'll tell my opinion(but u must consider that i play without permadeath,on normal): generally the most performant(?)/impressive implants cost too much, there's a huge jump from basic implants cost...It's a balance "issue",i think, and yes,i'm agreed with u that some of those implants become no-useful when u can afford the cost of those XD The implant that u talk about is "+1 Body,Removes toxic gases effects"?? 'cause i've seen this somewhere, and the first thing i thaught was "AHAHAHHA,how MUCH?!?!?!?I prefer toxic gases"!!! I don't advice u to buy that...Too many Nuyen...=) It's better lower the difficulty and start a new game XD

I disagree because the attribute maxes for character classes aren't functional.
therefore you see an artificial "issue" that doesn't actually exist.

I disagree because the attribute maxes for character classes aren't functional. Fascinating..... -abs The game gets a lot better when all the rules are turned on. I know because I can look at the paper copy of the rules and play by them -- the game is considerably more challenging in the end-game situations and includes more trade offs -- Cyberware being one of them. Another big trade off will be Skill Specialization which is the XP sink after you max out attributes.

the benefit cost curve is an exponential one, yes, so the price jumps can become quiet large.
first one is free.

There's an attribute cap?!
I just never got the chance to see that. Damnit!
Does that mean that, e.g. Strength Max is 5, it is possible to get it beyond that with Implants?

No cap yet. Cory mentioned it in another thread though. I don't remember the exact values, but when i read it i considered them far too high .

I've never had a character with that high stats; I've always been bored with being invincible long before that, with the exception of electrronics when I wanted to demonstrate that it wasn't working for me. (It's all fixed now).

I have a character with 11s. Lucky shots and large swarms of enemies can stil easily kill you....far from indestructable. Streets LosV and fennians are just speed bumps, I can still get good fights in corp land though.
Though I imagine sniper types would get bored....I punch all my foes into submission.

Probably a question of playing style. You can play melee types absolutely safe as well, once they have high enough stats. All 11s is definitely BEYOND the invincibility threshhold, even for melee.

I shoot grey robots with my HunterSight and kill everything else with my hands. And at 8 across the board, where my latest is now, I don't think anything buy my own stupidity can kill me.
