I've been playing for the last few weeks and am starting to understand some aspects of the game. Finally bought a bigger ship and now want to outfit it for spying. When I asked on discord, folks just told me to stack as many pilot modules as I could. That can't really be the intended way to play, given all of the variety in ship modules, right? So help me understand what they all do and when I should use them!
Armor and shield modules - probably only for ships that expect to get hit a lot, right?
Nav assist and pilot assist - to boost nav and pilot dice pools
Boarding system - this is just for boarding, so would something like pilot modules be more all-around useful?
C-TAK - to help dodge small craft
Defense pattern matrix - when is this more useful than extra pilot or nav dice?
ECCM - to escape, but would nav modules do the same?
Interlocking sensors - to hit harder (but not more accurately?)
Railtak matrix - to hit more accurately
Sensor array - to hit more accurately also? plus it's small, so easy to fit
Targeting matrix - also to hit more accurately? I don't understand the difference
Reactor spike module - extra fuel and some dice pool?
Peak Velocity Matrix - when is this better than nav or pilot or other modules?

Depending on the difficulty, a portion of players focus on an evasion meta and suggest that you stack a single type of component and remove everything else to be most successful. Certainly, it is one way to play but don't listen to anyone selling a single meta Any component that increases Skill Pools like +Pilot or +Electronics or +Navigation is used for all dice rolls involving it. You need to have crew with the Skill to match the component's new requirement.

Also important to keep in mind that most high efficiency players have more than one ship -- a ship that's fully stacked with evasion and range changing can be very useful for high difficulty Xeno hunting but it's awfully inefficient if you make your living Spying, Trading, Exploring, Salvaging or Smuggling.
