I will say this, if I ever chose to play on brutal for sport... this would be my home thread. Well, I blame LordofSyn for this. If he hadn't said that I wouldn't have been so impressed with the phrase "Brutal for sport" that I then went on to think about it to a larger degree than I probably should. So I'd like to suggest that we use this thread for a sort of Olympics. I'd like to suggest that there be (mostly) three types of posts here, to keep us on topic. 1. A proposal for an event: I'll kick this off. It should include a name, criteria for judging it, and maybe some discussion. 2. An attempt in an event. Each of us who would like to play posts up a story of how their knight did in this competition: Obviously we will be on the honor system. And I fear that though we may declare a winner there aren't any prizes beyond bragging rights. 3. Commentary: Anyone with commentary on an event or an attempt in that event should feel free to post that. I'm hoping that this will actually be useful, with some luck people can read the event's, attempts, and commentary and improve their game-play. So, to start us off I'll open up with a proposal for an event. -abs

Event Name: The Early Game Sprints
An attempt: To compete in the "Early Game Sprints" submit a story of how your knight runs through the early game. Please include enough details on what you did during each day of the event that people can learn from your style, or critique it. Please also include the amount of credits, and gear, you finish the sprint with. And lastly, please include a rough guess on how many knights it takes to achieve your success.
Judgement Criteria: An attempt in this sport should be judged on the number of credits you garner at the end of your early game divided by the number of knights you expect (statistically) to need to succeed at the attempt.
Example 1: I might say that LISA finished the sprint on Day Three. I would detail a paragraph or so of her strategy. I would note that LISA finished with a three-job comp and about 14k nu-Yen. Lastly I'll note that I expect to lose 4-5 knights for every one that survives LISA's starting script. So LISA would be judged as finishing on Day Three. Hopefully people could comment on my starting sprint. And we'd judge that LISA scored 4727 in the Early Game Sprint, based on her 14,000 nu-Yen in cash plus the (roughly) 12k it takes to buy two-job and a three-job computers with that total of 26,000 nu-Yen divided by the 5.5 knights I expect to need to try before I get a success like hers.
Example 2: I could detail how Silla finished the sprint with 8k and a three-job comp at the end of the sprint. I expect to be able to get a "Silla-like" result about one out of 1.5 tries. (Silla played very conservatively in the early game) So Silla would score around 13,335.
Commentary: LISA seems to be an excellent candidate for a win, she is easily my richest character to ever survive a starting sprint. However getting a LISA is hours of real world time, a real pain. Silla got out with a lot less cash, but she did it in two days (instead of LISA's three days) and was remarkably safer during the whole run. I could consistently set up a Silla in an hour or so. So Silla's winning score in the Early Game Sprints makes sense. Note however, that Silla has had a much harder mid-game than LISA did. Starting with just enough nu-Yen to hire runners made her mid-game difficult. LISA took a lot of time and effort to set up, but her mid-game flowed a lot better as she and her runners had full kit and were cybered up before hitting the streets of the NBZ. All in all I, personally, prefer a middle-ground. My favorite starts push the envelope a bit more than Silla, but less than LISA. I'm not sure they'll compare with Silla's score, but their mid-games are a lot smoother.
