I've been playing on Crazy level and it seems like the same thing keeps happening to me. I get up to around 7th level and things are starting to come together. My skills are getting raised, I've got my ship upgraded, I've got a couple military levels, and I'm starting to branch out on the different missions I'm doing. By this time I'm normally in really good favor with House Thulun, 4 others are around 0, and I've got a big neg rep and criminal status with De Valtos or Steel Song or someone.
What ends up happening is I get Wanted Criminal status and I inevitably run across a bounty ship. They defeat me and I get Game Over because I've been captured and executed.
I guess the thing I'm trying to figure out is how am I supposed to do different missions and stuff, and not have at least 1 faction pissed off at me? Part of the game is picking sides. It's just frustrating that I don't get a chance to wait for parole; just "captured, executed, game over!"
Any tips on this? Do I need to just play smarter and avoid the faction that I have the big negative rep with? There's no way to avoid a big negative rep when doing blockades and surveillance missions and things like that. The negative rep adds up quickly. Know what I mean?

yeah, the best thing to do is avoid enemy territory, even if it may happen that an enemy ship catches you also in friendly space...but the % is less than in enemy territory,of course then, focus on stealth and pilot,to avoid encounters and in the unlucky situation that u're stopped by the enemy,u can escape from it... as u maybe yet know, illegal cqrgo is a magnet for militar and pirate ships... at the end,u'll however need a dose of luck, specially on higher difficulties

I think that's a good tip and I need to watch what territory I'm flying through when my ship is damaged or low on crew. That's when they normally get me!

My advice (and how I survive on Impossible):
You must be certain that at the time when they are so pissed off to execute you, your skills and ship are so good that you can either outrun or win every encounter.

...when my ship is damaged... BTW did you know that you can do emergency repairs when you land on Wild planet if your ship is damaged a lot?

with mechanic officer and it may be a stupid and obvious thing to say but "don't make the repairs tomorrow, when u can make them today" always if(i dunno if it's the right way to say it,grammarly) ur damage isnt caused by another ship in a previous encounter;)

You can do makeshift repairs even without Mechanic. When you end up your fight with 1 engine running in the middle of nowhere it is very good idea to make some repairs.

I always forget about the manual repairs on the Wild planet. I need to remember to do that when I limp away from a battle. For a game that appears pretty simple on the surface, it sure can get really complicated with a lot of things to pay attention to.

I got to level 40ish in crazy with a spy. I put my points into pilot, stealth, then tactics and got them to 15 and started to raise other stats like intimidate and warrior. I started by doing a couple missions to buy upgrades as I kept the starting ship for a while. The omni stealth array is usually what I go for first, then 25% sails, then databank, etc.... After my tactics gets to 15 is when I start doing surveillance. I'll pick a planet that has a lot of wf and is close to a different territory (3-8 spaces away) and cruise over and spy. When my captain died I had around -5000 with steel song, +3000 with Cadar and the only other faction that liked me was De Valtos Hope this helped.

Okay, here's an example of this just happening... I'm at a -43 rep with Steel Song and they consider me a Terrorist. I am also known across Clan Space as a Fugitive of Royal justice and several members of the Royal Court have spoken out against me. Charges include deception of Clan Leaders, Treason, Piracy and other unspeakable acts. I was in Deep Space, not anywhere near SS territory. A SS Bounty Hunter confronted me. I tried to retreat but I wasn't quick enough. I tried to fight him off but I lost. And that was it, the game would have been over except I had an escape pod this time. It just seems awful quick. I hadn't been Wanted that long and I wouldn't think that -43 rep is that bad. Not bad enough to execute me for my crimes. I guess it is though.

What is your game turn, your level and your skills? Did your enemy destroy your Hull by guns?

I was only level 3, turn was around 65 and no, I didn't have the hull destroyed. They took out my engines and captured me. But since I had an escape shuttle I was able to elude capture and now I'm sailing around in an escape shuttle trying to figure out how to get enough money up to get a better ship. I assume you are going to tell me I shouldn't be at a minus 43 rep being at only level 3.

You are correct ;D. That was probably your death sentence.
But... Really? The description of the upgrade says that it protects only against "Hull crush"! If it is even more useful I may consider having one with me also!

Maybe it was a hull crash. I was pretty sure it wasn't. The message was the same message about my time coming to an end because I had been captured due to my crimes. But then I had the option to click on the Escape Shuttle and sail away thereby avoiding capture. I'm still sailing around in my escape shuttle, and I now have an escape shuttle for my escape shuttle. So if it happens again I'll be sure to pay attention to whether they get me becuase of Hull or Engines.
