Something I've been wondering about. In the guide it talks about ships with a high Hull value compared to your pilot ability. I'm curious how this works. If I've only got a pilot ability score of 10 and I get a ship with a Hull value of 40, how's that really factor into space travel, battles, fuel, etc.? Is there some general rule of thumb like my pilot score should be at least half the Hull value?

General advice is to have Pilot at least ½ of your Hull. I tend to have at least one times my Hull as minimum.

Standard rule of thumb is that Pilot + Intimidate >= Hull.
That is, to get the best performance out of your ship, you need to have a hull that is smaller or equal to your Pilot + intimidate skill.
This is NOT to say that you can't pilot a carrier class ship when you are level 1, but you just won't be getting the best out of it (combat, landings, fuel efficiency, etc).

General advice is to have Pilot at least ½ of your Hull. I tend to have at least one times my Hull as minimum. This is a good rule of thumb for combat heavy characters. To achieve better fuel economy and ship discipline (stealth, less encounters, less accidents) a mix of Intimidate and Pilot is best. However, Intimidate is less useful in Combat overall.

From memory - 20. + the one you are flying = you can own 21 ships in total.

Thanks. Firstly, why cap it? Secondly, who needs (or even wants, for that matter) 21 ships?

To avoid creating a black hole due to immense mass congregation at a single location. ab357 is capable of doing that. Do not tempt him.
