Okay. That makes sense, but it brings up another question. How is it that I can attack a Templar ship with a dozen untrained crewmen who lack weapons, and then in combat the Templar take casualties like any other ship, and then SURRENDER? Firstly, five Templar ALONE would mow down nearly 100 of my weaponless crewman. Secondly, since when do Templar surrender?  ? |

The ships called Templar? Those are Crewed by Star Traders, like the other ships in the game. The name of the ship doesn't decide the Captain who pilots.

You'll see that the Templar Vessels are often being operated by Faction Pilots, if you look at the Captain, Level, Clan and Ship Design.
Just like your Thulun Captain can Pilot a Templar Ship he purchased
