Instead of
'The sign says XXX. Vacancies?'
It would be nice if the buttons said:
'A room costs XXX. You have never stayed at this hotel before.' or 'A room costs XXX. You last stayed at this hotel on Feb 11, 2217 (Three days ago)'.
We'd lose the question about 'Vacancies' but unless you intend to introduce some hotels that are full when the poor exhausted CK arrives on the doorstep, that is no great loss.
It's better to spell out that date instead of 02/11 (because that might be, in this case the second of November), and what you expect in the numerical encoding of dates depends on where you live, worldwide. The (Two weeks ago) would just be a convenience.
This would be a great boon for those of us who play the game under conditions where we are interrupted a whole lot. Right -- time to sleep off some heat. Where haven't I slept recently? Goodness, I cannot remember any more. Hope it's not here ...

Thinking about this some more -- the right place to store this information is not on the hotel button, but in your computer, the same way safehouses and contacts are. We'd want a new section 'safehouses where we will burn off a reduced amount of heat' that could have a list:
Howling Sea Inn (stayed there Feb 14, 2219, 18.00) Dockside Inn (stayed there Feb 14, 2219, 5.02) Run Down Duplex (safehouse) (stayed there Feb 12, 2219, 23:24)
This wouldn't need to be constantly updated, only every time you visit a new Inn or safehouse -- i.e. if I have been out on crammers all week it may be that the Run Down Duplex from the above list would actually burn off max heat when I finally decide to call it a day, but I'd be fine with not knowing that for sure. It's more important to know where not to sleep, then where you can.
This also leaves you free to add entries like:
B- Street Extended Stays (We killed everybody in the place on a mission for Ricco the Blue Ox member Oct 14, 2217. If we ever show our face around here, he will phone the Kelly Boys to come over and kill us.)
And
B -Street Extended Stays is under new management We can stay there now if we like..

I like the idea of a hotel log in one's PDA. That way, players can keep track of where they stayed and make strategies on where to sleep next to maximize heat reduction.

I have yet to fill up my Maximum Computer since receiving it several months ago. I have downloaded like crazy, to the point that I siphoned away my Chairman position with Yakuza. lol. I am a wanted man by most everyone and still haven't gotten close to max.
as an aside and a clarification : The Head Memory does improve your hacking time?

Head Memory: Probably not complete.
Hotel Log: No support for this, sorry. I could add a section to the PDA that listed the last place you stayed.
Updated Hotel Dialog: I like this idea, we will investigate some options.

No, unfortunately we cannot store a list of hotel stays. There is no place for this data in the saved game format.

There's room for every contact you find, and every safehouse you buy -- so isn't there a way to share that data space with where you slept last night? I am thinking something on the lines of storing the hotels as safehouses that don't cost any money for you to hire (since at some point we are going to have to pay rent for all our safehouses, and there goes my real estate empire...) Then we'd only have to find space for one numeric field....

I've been thinking about this more. I don't see why you need to store the last 3 places I have slept at as data anyway.
Clearly the game knows internally where I have been sleeping recently, so that when you rest in the same hotel you slept in last night, the game knows not to deduct any heat from you. So why can it not spit out that information on demand? The demand could be 'when you press the button labelled PDA after pressing the icon for computer'. I don't understand why this could not work.

I tried to explain what was available, above. Sounds like you figured it out yourself with deductive reasoning.
Hotel Log: I could add a section to the PDA that listed the last place you stayed.
The game knows the last place you stayed, so that it can simulate surveillance (no heat reduction.)
However, the game does not need to know any more than the last hotel.
There is a data segment for "Contacts" and another for "Safehouses"
There is no data segment for "HotelsRecentlyUse" which is why it is only possible to include the last hotel stay in the button or PDA text.

So if I just pop from the Dockside Hotel to the Howling Sea Inn, my heat will go down? I thought the game kept track of the last few places I stayed, so that I would need to get to a third, and sometimes even a fourth to get my heat down. Incorrect?

Ok, I have been understanding how heat works incorrectly. I just worked my heat down from some astronomical value by walking from Unite Here Mission and the Marrilott Hotel in North Square, staying first at one and then at the other.
Grumble, grumble, then all those time I snuck my way out of Blue Ox land because there are only two places to sleep there, the Rare Flask Inn and the Water damaged apartment safehouse was unnecessary. Given the number of times I have died doing that, it makes me quite annoyed with myself for misunderstanding.
Ok then, an entry in your PDA saying where you slept last will tell you the only place you should not sleep tonight. I'd like to have this entry then, please.

Wow, I thought it tracked at least the last 2-3 places as well. I've spent a ton of time skittering all over the NBZ trying not to stay at a place I've been at recently, in search of maximal heat-reduction.
Live and learn I guess. It'll make future heat-reduction easier at least.

Makes me kinda wish we'd had a list of them instead

Having the last 2 or 3 you slept in not burn any heat for you makes the game a good bit more challenging, that is for sure.
