I was thinking ... wouldn't it be cool if the Smuggler class had bonuses for avoiding detection of cargo ... eg: 50% chance of avoiding detection by military ship inspections - Smugglers have ways of masking cargo signature (eg cocaine in coffee beans) 50% chance of avoiding some/all of the cargo being confiscated when boarded (eg hidden compartments within the ship)
80% chance of contract cargo being detected (people, packages, data)
After all, it's their job to move things that really shouldn't be moved.

Agreed. Maybe that could be the smuggler special ability and there could be a new officer that helps exploring/harvesting and can be called like an "explorer officer" or something. Besdes, I don't see how exploring has anything to do with smuggling, what your saying makes much more sense for a "smuggler" officer.

Are we talking about the smuggler starting class or the scout officer (who is also referred to as the smuggler officer in some places for some reason)? I think Cory has put a lot of effort into balancing the starting class bonuses so can't see any changes being implemented there, but a new smuggler officer would be a pretty good addition to help out the smuggler/explorer/merchant classes, if the ability was to hide artifacts/weapons/electronics from military / bounty hunter searches.

Scout is what he actually is, however, he *is* talked about as a smuggler. I should remove the smuggler part.

I was meaning the actual captain class rather than scout officer. Smugglers must be able to have some advantages in actually shifting "undesirables". It can't be complete protection - even Solo had to eject cargo on occasion.

Maybe you can change smuggler to scout and have a new officer called smuggler which does what slayernz is saying. I think an officer like that could really come in handy for some people. Also, can you change veteren to alien hunter? It makes it more obvious that his job to help you against aliens.

Yes and No. I'll do some thinking about the Alien Vet and we have a roadmap for new officers, smuggler is on the list. Renaming all the game text to Scout should help if not drive more work for everyone
