I think the game needs long range goals. I have played for two years and have exhausted all classes and levels. It's no challenge anymore to make millions and survive perpetually. long range goals outside of just making money and killing things--fun as that is--would really spice things up.
Seems to me a natural place to start is the back story and teasers implied in the boiler plate rumors: seek to find the destination of the seventh faction! Supposed defeating aliens opens the door to clues about where they have gone. Then, if you can decipher the clues, open the door to a new, secret map area. New places to go, and perhaps even more secrets, like visiting an alien world, perhaps.
What do you think?

Try playing on a harder difficulty. On Impossible, you'll alwayes die eventually.
Cory is currenl working on new contracts, some which will only be unlocked once reaching a certain rank/rep/time.
Maybe some new awards, like an LV100 award, or kill 5 aliens award?

I believe roemann said he's done all classes and levels. Meanwhile I have yet to summon the courage to step up to Hard difficulty after 3 months. I hate failure. _______________________________ Every day I'm torpin'..... Party Torp is in the tube tonight, Everybody just have a Torp time. I think its impressive its taken 2 years to exhaust all levels and professions and options. It says a lot about ST, and why ST2 will be awesome. I am glad you have enjoyed the game so much! Have you tried TA or CK?

I believe roemann said he's done all classes and levels. Meanwhile I have yet to summon the courage to step up to Hard difficulty after 3 months. I hate failure. You and me both, but, I admit I do play IMPOSSIBLE and CRAZY. It's kind of funny cause a lot of the posts go around "killing this ... or killing that." At IMPOSSIBLE and CRAZY, I find the most fun out of avoiding combat. Alien ship? RETREAT, did I make it? Good .... Did I NOT make it? Surrender, escape shuttle. My very first act was to purchase a Pirate Hawk (cause its early game) as soon as I could buy one and not be broke. Put Vark Mondi in storage. There 2 ships for when I really need it. I'm playing a NON-COMBAT SPY. In essence a Trader with the lovely goods a SPY brings to the table (electronics, weapons). There is just no reason to fight if I can avoid it. I'm actually getting good reputation with ...everyone ... that means My morale stays around 7 cause I avoid Contracts like the plague. It's a fun way to play, very different than going out big gun ho. Putting everything into Pilot, stealth, Tactics. Screw the macho alien hunting crap. I want to see how FAR I can get, not how MANY I can kill. rabid

Just got Elite version of the game a couple weeks ago. Currently playing on Crazy working on getting to a positive rep with everyone with my non-combat, non-exploring, cargo hauling military officer. Might just be me but quickly found out that playing more aggressively in the early part of the game on Crazy just leads to quick death. Do think some more long term goals would be nice and not just ones related to awards/game unlocks. Having something specific to work for can make things more interesting. Some ideas might be: To track down your characters back story, where and how did your father get the ship you start with. Becoming a leader in your faction helping to set policy. Becoming the Prince of your own planet.
Goals like the last one would be end game goals where the character was retired if the goal was achieved.
Oh well off to see if I can make friends with Clan Javat, getting rid of a negative 600 rep should keep me busy for a while.

Yeah, I too have found that combat on the higher levels is something to avoid. Having said that though, bounty hunter/military officer with the surveillance ability lets you choose your opponents for capture/kill missions... I have in the past managed to complete a kill mission in an escape shuttle with an almost mutinous crew due to repeated surveillance with no fuel (fuck them though, the payoff was too good to miss)

J To track down your characters back story, where and how did your father get the ship you start with. Rabid Rabbit looked up, "How did I get my ship? Not much of a story. It was a game of checkers. I won." "Checkers." Bonnie echoed in total disbelief. Then he smiled ruefully. "I don't believe you. I never seen you play a game of checkers in your life." The First Officer shook his head, "I'll do some rounds. Seriously, checkers. Hah!" "Ain't that the truth," Rabid Rabbit smiled, "That idiot shouldn't have been trying to crown. Chainsaw beats queen any day." rabid

It's great to see the interest in this topic!
I, too, liked the idea of new contract types. Perhaps multi-step contracts: go here, get that, take it here, kind of things.
Of course I have absolutely no idea what it takes to implement any of the ideas in the game, but I hope Corey considers doing something.
Although I have been playing quite a while, it didn't take quite that whole time to cover all the trades and levels. I still play almost every day, which definitely says something about the repeat potential of the game--or about how easy it is to entertain me.

Prehaps special endings for specific professions? I'll make an idea list!

The end is my favorite part "and provide you with a ship."
Great post
