I'm still new to the game, having only been playing for about a week, so there may be a shortcut or something I'm not yet aware of, but so far the biggest thing I wish for every time I play is a shortcut to the Faction Conflicts screen.
I play as a Merchant on the Challenging difficulty (I would play a lower difficulty to learn with if permadeath wasn't disabled on them.) and find myself having to double-check Faction Conflicts and Faction Politics screens at nearly every stop. Forgetting to note a Spy War or Trade Embargo can be a very dangerous mistake.
To get to the Conflicts screen I currently have to click the ship icon in the bottom left (or click Status when landed in an Urban zone), then click Cargo, then Conflicts.
To get to the Politics screen I can just click Factions instead of Cargo, so there's an extra click to get to Conflicts. It's nice that the Conflicts screen does include a shortcut to the Politics screen next to the back button, but that makes the additional steps to get back to Conflicts seem even more out of place, since the shortcut next to the back button on the Politics page leads to the Contracts page instead, a page I rarely need to access.
So for my wish: The easy fix would be to change the shortcut near the back button on the Faction Politics to link to the Faction Conflicts page rather than the Contracts page. Then they could both be accessed relatively quickly by clicking Factions, without having to go to Cargo first. (Cargo doesn't seem an intuitive place to find Faction Conflicts information anyway)
Additionally, it'd would be nice if there were more shortcut icons available (depending on screen size) so I could access these pages from the icons on the bottom of the screen when in space. I can already access Contracts and Quadrant Rumors this way and my tablet has plenty of unused space for more icons.
If there is some code reason not to include more icons, perhaps the Rumors icon could be replaced with a Politics icon (as long as the Politics page and Conflicts pages are linked like the Contracts and Rumors pages are).
