One thing that I didn't like when playing the game in general, mostly when doing contracts, is how much game time it chews up just to sell your loot or buy water fuel at the Stock Exchange.
However, the perfect way to abuse it in return was to pass the time requirement for the Dark Nemesis award. After I built up a bit of money, I got my wanted flags, then landed at a friendly planet and just proceeded to buy and sell 1 unit of water fuel at a time, passing a whole week with each transaction. Needless to say, it was risk-free and took very little real time.
P.S. the Dark Nemesis description says 22 years are required, but it actually seems to only need 10 or 11 years.

Turned based games will always have rules about when turns pass and when they don't. From your post about "don't like" it sounds like perhaps you also don't like the Negotiation skill? There are many ways you can rapidly easily reduce the number of turns used in the game at the Exchange. You point out a failure in the design of the Dark Nemesis Award. I will think about ways to recast it so that it doesn't have this issue. Thanks for the post

I like Negotiation, in games when I'm trying to have everyone like me, it's very useful for negative money laundering to buy reputation with Artifacts/Weapons/Electronics/Records.
Haven't quite decided yet whether I should spend some points on it even in games where I mean to go around fighting and doing contracts. Investing in at least a few points of negotiation would mean that much less time spent on trying to get rich, and more time to concentrate on fighting/contracts.

Exactly -- a character focused on fighting and contracts naturally takes longer to conduct trade business. A master Merchant will certainly make quick work of even the most complex trade arrangements -- even those executed in the complex network of Trade rules passed by the Syndicates and within a Star Trader's off-world Exchange.

But isn't there still a minimum of one week to sell even 1 unit of goods, since we can't sell multiple items in a single transaction?
The fighting player's problem is he starts with a smaller cargo hold in his ships, and then his loot consists of a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

martyparty - it is important to keep differences between the Professions and to provide lots of ways to play the game. As you said, that is one of the challenges of a fighting character! Enjoy.

This should work, as an even easier (and cheesier ) way to make time pass when you actually want it to - just go to the nearest planet where you can access the military part of the Star Dock - an Independent planet should do fine - and just Rename your ship a bunch of times. Time actually passes for that! And you don't even have to mess around with the purchase/sale slider bar.

Interesting way to make time pass. Looks like that code was added about 20 months ago and has remained unchanged since the first request to add the ability to rename a ship.
I'll remove it in an upcoming release.

And, the local authorities simply can't let you leave the office/queue until you have all the appropriate stamps.... Hire a facilitator? That takes an update! ;D --Khanwulf

As of v5.0.11 it still takes a week to rename your ship.

As of v5.0.11 it still takes a week to rename your ship. It's because they had to chisel the old name off the hull, smooth it out, and then chisel in the new name. Maybe the duration of name changing should be dependent on the actual name of the ship. Time needed to change from "Prancing Pirate" to "Old Peg Leg": 1 week. Time needed to change "Old Peg Leg" to "Old Peg Legs": 1 day I think it's hilarious (and awesome!) that you found this loophole. Maybe we should suggest ways that this loophole can be closed? 1. make you pay a fee for each rename. And the fee goes up exponentially each time. 2. do a dice roll, to see if the Dock clerk summarily executes you on the spot for yet another ship name change request. 3. when you click Rename, the game randomly assigns your ship a name. And you may not like it. And it may not let you change it again. And everyone will laugh at you. Tom

An easy fix to this is to just limit the time to 1 week for name changes at a given star port. So if you change it twice at the same port the game still only passes 1 week. In RP terms you yelled at the guy as he was painting to do it a bit different. Once you leave and go somewhere else it will then take a week again.
