They need a seriously huge hold with crappy engines to be worth it.
Gotta give an award for crossing the map in one of those ships.

An idea place for that type of ship would be on a Fringe world that has a rich wild sector. You could reap large cargo yields, land on the urban side, then (once ship cargo transfer becomes possible) transfer your cargo to a faster but smaller ship for sales.
Of course you would need to safely transport such a ship to a Fringe world first. Of course pirates wouldn't be able to resist attacking you and anyone who doesn't like you would find it to be the perfect time to take you down.
