My dumb question is: OK, I Purchased a new additional ship instead of Trading In my existing ship. I still seem to be using my old ship. How do I switch to using my new ship? (What's this Dry Dock thing?).

Ah ok, many thanks! Do I have to be on the same planet where I bought the new ship, to see the Dry Dock option? (Which I guess would make a lot more sense than the new ship following me around the galaxy like a bad smell...)
And if I, er, forgot exactly where I bought the new ship? <sheepish grin>

Yep, got to be on the same planet where you bought the new ship (assuming you've never used it).

I bought my first ship yesterday (I usually borrow a new one from an obliging bounty hunter or pirate) and I noticed there seems to be no way to transfer cargo from one ship to the other. My old ship had lots of water-fuel, but I had to buy fresh water for my new ship. Is there a way to transfer cargo between ships in Dry Dock?

Kelvin Zero you are some kind of weird ST RPG psychic, or Andrew is leaking you our development plans.

I swear I am not hiding out in your attic.

Stealing my records again, eh? =)
Although my attic is decidedly "low orbit" for a Captain of your Rank, don't you think?

Aha! This opens up (or will open up) a back door way of getting to my Wish List feature of an Urban Cache (aka Warehouse). Buy a cargo ship with a big fat hold and use it to stash spare stuff in Urban zones. Nice.

Space in urban zones is tight, I imagine.
The security might be better, but you should have to pay for the space.

oldalchemist -- i implemented a docking fee but it is set to $0 right now. we could increase it for higher levels. spike -- I expected the use of huge ships as warehouses. this is seriously how it is done "in the game universe." The Captain wouldn't trust some gravity-slug to store his stuff in a planet box! He locks it up inside his ship and leaves his crew to defend it!

on that note, crew morale is only slightly degraded by time in dry dock. each ship the Captain has maintains a Crew, Crew Morale and Crew values array.
Morale and skill degrades faster if you dry dock a crappy ship (military shuttles!) or if you dry dock crappy places (rinze mining camp!)
this way the hardcore captain can have a set of crews and ships, ready, trained (and with bonuses, bumps, morale, ect) and waiting.
Dry Docking a ship with a 10 Morale (Fanatics) will stick at 10 Morale while they await the return of the Captain. They probably spend time making up songs and making oil paintings of him =)

How about a ship for sale that's basically a container with garbage engines, sails, crew, etc. If you're nuts, you can fly it to another dock, but basically, it's a warehouse that you can fly to another part of the same planet.

Will add some ships like this for some factions.
They'll be part of the "Rank and Shuttle" menu which is soon to be expanded with this Faction specific ship list.
