Not taking alien ships, buying them. Much harder to accomplish as you'd need many credits as well as XP, rank, rep etc and would be very difficult to find. Besides, alien ships aren't to overbalanced. Many of them are huge in one area but microscopic in another to balance them out (like a fast/quick 40 hull 70 armor ship with 1000 crew and 20 cargo). This new ability would give players what they're asking for of all sides: a super ship, a point of having massive credits, a benefit of having high rank and a benefit of having high reputation. To make it even more balanced, the ability of getting upgrades for these expensive, hard to obtain "super" ships could be limited or even restricted.
EDIT: just read the previous threads on such a topic (thank you slayernz). Here's my logic. Surely the factions have been able to transform 1 alien/narv ship into a ship that can be controlled by humans. They must bave an 'area 51'. In order to get your hands on one of the few alien ships a faction has stolen and transformed though, you'd need to have some sort of rediculous reputation. Just like the probably have ships far superior to ones in stardocks available to every star trader.

This is the wish list forum afterall. I'm happy if they wait till Star Traders 2 to implement the ability to acquire EVERY ship in the game, however difficult it may be to do so - you can put a percentage chance on attempts to take over other ships (think booby traps) to make successful alien ship acquisitions a rare event indeed.

I was thinking ... alien ships are just that ... alien. Even if you managed to tow one back to a friendly space port (good luck smuggling that through quarantine), engineers may never actually figure out how to control the ship. Extreme example - try piloting a duck. You know it flies, and has multiple functions, eg cargo bay opening/closing (ie, mouth), flight control surface management (ie, feathers and preening), fuel intake/exhaust (ie .. you know what I mean). The point is, that just because you understand duck physiology, doesn't mean that you can figure out a way to strap a seat on one and fly it. Now Narvidian ships are definitely larger than ducks - but they may have flight controls that are not even in the standard 7 dimensions that we understand. Even if you did manage to figure out some rudimentary control interface, you'll probably get 2% - 5% of the performance Narvidian's get. Sure you'll be okay in a straight line, but don't expect to corner anytime soon

Have you see the Narvidian Hive? Have you seen the creatures? The machines?
I have. I've seen the things they do, the secrets they keep.
My Leviathan armor bears the scars of the battle.
I'd turn my Doom Claw on any Star Trader who fell into the grips of these ships.
They may be the children of the Alfaan but that does not make them MY Brother.

Cory, I hate to throw any more suggestions out there at this point l, but if there is anything that would make me enjoy ST more it would be a ship in honor is Slayernz's "duck" post. Please please please let me find a duck to fly around the universe some day.

Surely the factions must have some ship(s) superior to the ships available at the common stardock to any star trader. Prehaps these "secret" ships could be avalable in the conditions I described above for alien ships (and appear as enemies once in a while -- especially if you have an extrodinarily negative rep with a faction)

If I had the time, I'd photoshop a weaponized Cadar Mallard, but unfortunately due to work-related constraints, I can't give you a flying duck ..

Who gives a flying duck, anyway? ;-)

Don't know why I loved the original "duck" post so much. Perhaps it's the soft spot I have for absurd (if insightful) analogies, or perhaps it's just an overly visual imagination. Thanks for the new sig as well. What if the ship was not so much a duck-shaped-ship, as a real inter-galatic duck with a seat strapped on it? Sure it would probably get shot out from under you before you made it to DV Prime, but I'm sure the techies could probably fit an 8 hull escape shuttle in a 0.25 hull duck!

If they can put Discworld on a turtle, why not a ship on a duck.

- It's able to land on both land and water (perfect amphibious design)
- Shielding (feathers) are naturally replaced over time
- You can be a little less finicky about the fuel - none of this water shortage issue
- If you're really hungry (and you're on a world with another available ship) ...
Key Disadvantages of a Duck ship
- It's a duck.
Lesser Disadvantages of a Duck ship
- You may have equipped it with an escape shuttle, but you're sure as hell not wanting to clamber into that orifice to get into it ...
- Cargo space is limited ... and onboard processing tends to turn whatever you are carrying into a green paste
