A vote for Heroes of Steel is a vote for Star Traders 2, ST Battlefleet and Secrets of Steel. TB... would you guys care to elaborate on ST Battlefleet? Please?

ST Battlefleet ... first, you have to convince Andrew that it is a great idea. He's not yet sold. Battlefleet is the epic space combat game consisting of fleet combat using the ST ship combat rules. You command a flag ship, escort ships, cruisers, supply ships, medical frigates and go on exciting campaigns ... you cross the Quadrant, engage in massive space battles, earn Credits and buy / upgrades / outfit your ships. Each ship has a Captain, a Crew, Officers and Upgrades. You are a Cadar (or Thulun, or ... you know, those other Factions) officer in the 50 years before the Exodus. Imagine the glory of 20 on 20 ST battles in open space! Anyway, I attached one of the maps exported from the test system. Shows my fleet fighting some nasty Alien Fleet. I'd really love to have the time to make all these games into reality ... to make them HAND IN HAND with you ... all of you. If that's going to happen ... we've got to take a shot. It's risky. It's crazy. It's worth it. Lets make this happen. Lets make this happen together. Attachments:

There's a lot of potential in this.
Did you used to play the turn based strategy game by SSG called Warlords (1, 2 and 3)? The reason I mention it is that by using a tag-team combat model, they were able to put a greater scope while keeping battles as essentially a series of 1-on-1 bouts, which simplifies the worry of handling multi-sided affairs. Many of the fantastical creatures lent bonuses to the whole "stack", which made it really feel like they were fighting as a team.

I am a HUGE fan of tactical placement combat scenarios, the one thing I have always felt was missing in ST combat. This can also make a HUGE impact on ship layouts, as ST is a simple head on attack system it does not take into account the old school style of naval warfare. A well timed broadside during a passing maneuver is WAY more effective than just mounting cannons on the bow to shoot at the smaller ship profile. I agree this can be an amazing game, I know I would play it... but then again, I play "Gratuitous Space Battles", where there is zero story involved.

I played silly amounts of WarLords. Andrew and I created a pen and paper board game version when I was like 14. We talk about converting it to mobile occasionally. The iPhone version of Warlords (a direct port) was not very popular.
I really like tactical placement combat. I think the ST game system would work really well with a ship layout system (aft and prow mounted weapons, etc.)
I love GSB, that guy is a brilliant programmer and inspiration to indy devs all over. He's really impressive and reading his success story is really fun. He's getting to follow his dreams and good for him!
Star Traders RPG does have a lot of positional elements in the combat, taking into account the last pass ship directions, ranges and recent changes in direction. It's no where near as sophisticated as the ST: BF rules, simply because it doesn't have a map.
Once you introduce firing arcs, range, momentum the aspects of "where are my weapons" and "how fast can I turn this ship" are suddenly way more interesting (if you have multiple ships.)
If you took a 1 on 1 battle in ST: BF I think you'd end up with something a lot like ST ... firing passes until someone died or took it to boarding. Anyway ...
Lets not tell Andrew about this thread, mmmmK? I'm not even supposed to be talking about ST: BF anyway.
If we don't get this KS to happen it'll probably end up in the bucket of games we started to make but didn't have time to finish.

Bah, talk is talk. I spent my whole life wishing for a mechwarrior/battle tech MMO, where you controlled the Human Character and had to actually travel to the drop ship, climb into the Mech and get dropped in for battles. You get your RPG elements, social interactions, gratuitous robot carnage and political intrigue all in one game. Its entirely possible by every stretch of the imagination with game engines over15 years ago.
Is it one the of the best layouts for a geek game EVER? ...more than likely... Will it ever happen? Not a chance in hell...
Our lives revolve around two currencies... money and time. You guys could have plenty of the first if you were money grubbing companies like EA or Blizz, but your not... you respect your fan base. As far as the second one... you have created in ST everything I want out of a mobile game and continue to work hard to update it. How would we ask you for anything more from your day?

Looks like a very interesting game. Hope to hear more about it in the future, after we get HOS going good

All Andrew has to say is, "A vote for Heroes of Steel is a vote for Star Traders 2, ST Battlefleet and Secrets of Steel. And more over, a vote for Trese Brothers and everything we do."

This sounds awsome. The multiple ships reminds me of Sid Miers Pirates, but the advanced strategic play is even better. ;D So glad to hear the first part of Steel 'verse is (hopefully) being released this year. The fact that SOS (not sure about HOS) seems like it'll resemble CK on steroids is the best.

ncaoa - Star Traders: Battle Fleet would definitely be part of the Star Traders universe. I was just pushing that, as Cory pointed out, helping us to make Heroes of Steel a successful project means that Cory and I can keep developing games, including Battle Fleet. The Steel and Star Traders universes are not the same. Thanks for all your support!

But if we can get the time to build Star Traders Battlefleet, you'll be able to import your Star Traders RPG Captains as admirals and command fleets to battle the imminent xeno incursion

I'm really excited about the concept of taking an ST Captain and building a fleet around him or her.
While ST:BF wouldn't be the sequel I'm designing, it would be another fun game in the ST universe!

I LOVE this idea! Maybe it would be less complicated to make than SoS -- a mini game even?

@jr - if we developed ST BF, it will be a full game with campaigns and lots of play to be hand. Nothing mini-about it, just ask Cory
