Any advice for earning this award?
I know it's 'Crazy' difficulty, but I'm getting hulled left and right! My Explorer managed to capture a Hawk Class and get my upgrades started, but I got one-shotted by some Rychart thugs...yet again.
It's pretty much the only award that's eluding me (other than those privateer ones.)
How do I get to a point where I can survive as a wanted criminal? How do I kill time for 22 years in relative safety?

My only experience playing "Crazy" got me 3 alien encounters within my first year, so I haven't dared show my face in that level again. It's a real shame you can't just gamble in the spice halls for a while but that would probably reduce your skills, not sharpen them My only thoughts would be to build up relations with two factions that have adjacent zones by doing trading or "safe" contracts, shell out for a fast ship with lots of armor, THEN go piss off a couple of other factions to start the award clock ticking. Spend 22 years just trading between your friendly factions and RUN whenever you are attacked. Then again - that's probably playing overly cautious and maybe you should just buy the biggest baddest ship you can and do some marauding for 2.2 decades

I avoid getting the wanted flags until I'm ready.
The Wanted flags mean any neutral faction or independent will be gunning for you.
One of the fastest ways to burn the time is Prison, LOL.
Surrender is part of Crazy. For me on Crazy difficulty if I get to 22 nears with Wanted Flags he's sooooo angry at a few Factions ... it always goes down bad. Like fist-fight on the flagship bridge bad =)

Any advice on a good class, faction, and starting ship? Which skills seem to be the most vital on Crazy?
Time spent in prison counts, huh?... Also, "wanted criminal" means -20 faction score, right?
I was trying to do a stealthy spy captain, hoping that I could get myself some slick, fast, low signature ship with a stealth array and lay low for a while, but I'm having a hell of a time getting there. Early on, doing any sort of surveillance gets me killed by warships.
Maybe I need to get back to a Crazy Explorer.

Buying rounds of spice also advances the clock. With over 200 grand in the bank, I was going to run a party ship for about twenty years through friendly territory with occasional stops for fuel.
I just moved out of my Mars Class into an Atmo Jammer and was facing a DeValos Terror Class in orbit around a planet. We were shooting it out without anyone making much progress and I accidentally hit RAM instead of advance.... Before I could retreat my red, red hull out of there, I got popped.
I said some bad words.

I play free version not elite so i couldnt get awart but its what I done to get captain ready for getting award:
- pirat class, only pilot and stealth skills - my ship is terror class with full of weapons - 20 years I spent only on blocking Javat Prime [8,-2] what make me use 0 water-fuel and no sails damaged
easy to obtain

Blockading seems to attract a lot of military attention. Did you do it on Crazy or an easier difficulty?
So how much time does one blockade action use up? A week? I wonder if I could do the same with surveillance? How much time do other actions take? I'm wondering if I should have just hung out on a friendly mining colony with my explorer and just ferried water to the cache and harvested/explored stuff to the urban area how much time I'd kill.

I'm chasing this one, too... I lost a Crazy-level Captain last night about three years shy of the 22 - had a fat bankroll and a choice Spear Class, was trying the party boat approach, then got bushwacked in deep space by a radiation storm, of all things.
And yes, some colorful language ensued regarding the Narvidians and the questionable lineage of certain Clan officials.
Plan to try again tonight with some of the above suggestions (and will watch my health status *much* more carefully).
Keep up the great work, Team Trese.

Okay - got it last night in a Blade Class... Heavy Pilot and Stealth definitely made the difference in escaping and avoiding hostile elements - good call there, koles. Blockade and Surveillance worked equally well for me to spend the 22 years, as did hitting the friendly bars and spoiling the crew. Prison chews up time great (a year or so at a stretch?), but is kinda expensive and risky for my tastes. I'd also suggest picking a Captain's one friendly House and one friendly Syndicate for the run with your favorite Wilderness areas of the map in mind. In retrospect, this should have seemed blatantly obvious to me. Damn fun game.

Dammit. I'm going to get this award before you get those new awards our Cory!
Which ship did you guys start with?
I'm shooting for 4 friendlies and 2 enemies. Figure I'll piss off the big hat Rycharts since they've embargoed Javat and Thulun already.
Shortage of Artifacts on Rinze Settlement? Oh dear. I'm weeping tears of joy.

Hmmm...Level 16 DeValos bounty hunter in a Hawk Class? I could probably take him in my fully upgraded Spear Class, but why risk it? I want to live to see my Dark Nemesis award, so I'll surrender peacefully, do some time in the clink, and get out to spend some quality time with my crew later...
Dead of wounds in jail. Seriously? From 10 health. Screw going peacefully from here out.
Man, if I'm going to get shanked in the big house, at least give me a description of the tragic action.

oldalchemist -- the prison code literally cannot do 10 wounds. I am working to add Health displays along the way so that you can see health at each step.

Maybe I was already missing a few ears. I happened so fast...
Hey, does changing your ship in the middle of the 22 years mess things up? I've been a wanted criminal since 74.33AE and it's 101.46AE. That's about 27 years, right? My log show no sign of my banned personhood being lifted. Actually, I've been on the new Atmo Jammer since at least 75.18AE. I'm wondering if I need to get in the old Blade Class from Dry Dock to make the award work. There was a glitch where the Blade Class showed on the map screen while I was actually flying the Atmo Jammer until I quit and restarted the game.
