OK, I'm stumped as to what the difference is between these buttons.

One is free and the other you have to pay?
I haven't noticed any actual payment being made when I've selected "Buy Rumor" but maybe its in spice or something.

Buy Rumor rolls the dice but always rolls a unknown rumor. If no unknown rumors are in range then you get a randomized rumor.
It is like a slot machine -- the Buy version always wins if there are wins to be had. The next button is totally randomized based on CHA.

So then as a rule, if you are a military officer with little cha, you might be interested in a rumor, but only in a high rated spice hall? But if you are a suave, sophisticated Mal Reynolds, you might not bother paying?

So if you buy a rumor and you get a stock rumor, there are no new rumors in range?
Maybe change the name of the 'next rumor' button to 'chat' or 'make small talk.'

Maybe change the button labels to Buy Rumour and Free Rumour?
I didn't realised it was CHA based. Maybe Buy and Free could work the same way, but the money you pay gives an effective bonus to CHA?
It still may be asking too much of new players that they have to discern the difference between a concrete rumour and a generic flavour text, and know to stop using Buy Rumour once they receive a flavour text. "In real life", receiving a duff rumour would not mean that your next 100 credits slapped down on the table might not get you a really juicy actionable rumour. So maybe pop a toaster when the first flavour text comes up on a Buy Rumour.
Personally, I could almost go for saying that all Rumours cost you.
How's the code coming along to de-duplicate rumours etc? Actually I seem to be getting less duplication and fewer (apparently) endless loops. But that might be because I'm using Buy Rumour more.

The unlimited rumors but should be fixed as of 3.4.7 I think.
For now, spice-addled spacers tend to repeat themselves.
