What is the purpose of the being followed indicator? Haven't found a way to either confront or lose the tail once you get it and it can last for days or weeks.

you can sleep in a hotel or go to the HQ of the faction your in and pay to have the tail removed. EX: your being tailed in Los V territory, go to the Los V den and bribe them to leave you alone.

I'm not sure if there is a purpose as of now, but I think it could be planned to have some effect. What I think would be a good implementation is to only have the tail kick in when you are traversing low/no/negative rep areas. Then next time you are targeted by a patrol or some thugs have the tail act as a negative stealth modifier, in essence making it more difficult for you to escape encounters until you lose the tail.

I am not totally sure how it works, but when your being followed, there is an increase in the numbers of encounters you have. At least that is what seems to be happening.

And you get more heat when you do jobs. Talking to the HQ only works in ganger areas and if your rep is only slightly negative (or better, of course). Otherwise, you have to confront people who are following you next time you get a chance.

To be honest, no idea. That's just how I imagine the system works or is intended to work at sometime.

I think aside from the fact that you can get followed in places where you have good rep as well, this is what we have. Cory or Fallen will correct me if I am spreading disinformation.
This is one of the very, very first things that was put into the system, if I recall correctly. Predates runners, ladders, even 'walking around town without getting the occasional force close and Dark City Error' ....

I've tried confronting people after already being followed and only very rarely does it result in a loss of the tail. Rather frustrating since my entire team is at an effective 12+ stealth and the tails are as likely to be in Faction Zones where I have a solid positive rep as in ones where I'm on the outs.
Would be nice if, since I know I'm being followed, I could click on the icon to force an encounter or else lose the tail.

Perhaps we should call "Followed" something different like "Tracked."
The system is very old (in CK terms) and deeply ingrained in the encounters engine.
Being followed, by one or more Factions, will have a dramatic impact on the difficulty of the tests in some encounters as well as an impact on the amount of Heat earned for Contracts.
Followed is fully implemented and will continue to be folded into systems as they are brought online.
There is no doubt we have more to do with this system and several additional elements are already supported (but hidden.)
- Followed in Matrix - Global Followed (outside of NBZ) - Cloaked (Negative Followed)

I like monitored. It has a more passive sound to it and is something I can accept that people I'm ostensibly friends with might do. Followed or tracked is a very active term and those doing such are much more likely to harbor ill will towards me. Monitored can be as simple as the locals just letting the faction leaders know the sort of activities I've been engaging in as a sort of neighborhood watch/gossip sort of way. Or a more intensive surveillance utilizing technology to help keep tabs on someone as potentially dangerous as a Cyber Knight. In any case being monitored wouldn't be something a CK and his/her team could easily, if at all, do something about since there is no one you can really confront.

I like the term "monitored" also. It fits in with idea that there are cameras every where in the NBZ.

Thanks for the feedback! Added #TA-1082 for Cory and I to look at this a consider.
