Currently, I feel the tradesman doesn't provide as many bonuses as most other officers, and the 2/3 bonuses that he does provide are somewhat minor. I think the tradesman should have more bonuses, specifically for trading, so he rivals with other officers like the political. Some ideas for new bonuses for the tradesman:
- Increases Negotiate (the difference btw this officer and political would be that the political’s negotiate bonus would be more for urban landings and reputation in general while the tradesman’s negotiate bonus would be more for trade transaction time, prices, and reputation for trading specifically)
- Decreases trade transaction time
- Decreases rep loss for embargo trading (more than currently)
- Improves exchange prices
- Decreases encounters for urban landings
- Gives captain access to exchange for planets with “closed exchange” rumor
- Warns of trade embargoes
- Rep bonus for trading in shortages/surpluses
- Rep bonus for selling contraband
- Bonuses increase by 100% with trade permit
Also, it seems that the PO helps trading alone more than tradesman currently because she provides a major negotiate bonus plus an additional +1 negotiate/spice unit, which does reputation, trade transaction time, prices, and urban landings. She also warns of embargoes and gives access to exchange with low rep. All the tradesman does is decrease rep loss by a minor 20% for embargoes and increases rep slightly for trading during trade alliances, with no way to increase his bonus.
