Flagships do not count as pirate ships, though if any did it would certainly only be Steel Song's. Hmmmm what a wonderful way to get the upper hand on cap'n Bluebeard. Maybe I'll alter the rules one more time....unfortunately you'll never know if I'm winking under this eye-patch.

Ha - I went the whole hog and got a double eye-patch. Why cover one eye when you can cover both!
Anyway - I knew flagships weren't legitimate pirate ships. Let's keep the rules nice and as simple as possible.

In the last challenge, I only bought 2 ships ... does a flagship count as a pirate ship? It's DeValtos, and everyone knows how bad a bunch of crooks they are! I started - my pirate is level 2 and within 2 game years, he has $150k to his name. DP Bluebeard will surely be the scourge of all that come before him Man you're blowing me out of the water. I'm ~15years in and limping along at $71k. I usually make just enough from a contract/pirating run to cover repairs, refueling, and heading back out for more rough and tumble. I think I'm going to lose this challenge quite handily, but it'll be fun to go down in a blaze of glory. Mr. McClane will have vengeance on the sector! No more will you look at Javat and laugh!

I like the first mate there, bucko. Well John McClane fell to a particularly unlucky bounty hunter. I had just finished dueling an enemy captain to death and stealing his (much nicer) ship when the blasted Steel Song bounty hunter came around. tried to retreat and... blammo. First round, brought down like a dog. Should have just surrendered.. Well, time to break out one of the McClane clones! Onward ho, McClane 2!

Roberts is off to rough and tumble start. Seriously, this game is a weird one. I keep going to ports and there will be no water-fuel and often no contracts. There are few surpluses and almost no shortages. There are scads of assassinations, accidents and investigations so things are always closed. I've never seen a game like it. If I get him established he is going to be a captain born by fire.

Oh man I'm having a hard time getting my feet in this challenge. I think it has a lot to do with my lack of combat experience in this game, but I'll do the best I can! Poor John McClane mk.2 bit the dust again! Time to crack out mk.3 and modify my game plan, gotta figure out a way to get some cash reliably.

john you're not the only one. Roberts bit the big one. I got a little agressive trying to raise money to get a new ship. Taking three bounty contracts at a time, while still flying your original ship (even if it is a Serpent's Tooth) is not a good way to stay alive. I went down to a Cadar Bounty that was almost twice my level in fast/quick ship. Roberts II is starting with the Aperio Caliga, he'll mascarade as trader until he can buy something really dope. Then the reign of terror begins.

DP Bluebeard is struggling a little because I'm used to buying a good ship in dock and not having to worry about trying to keep ships somewhat intact during combat. Cash is becoming a little short due to repairs and the like. Weirdly, Steel Song like me at the moment. I know I'll have to put a stop to that down the track ...

I think we'll find out what the really good pirate ships are this week. I flew a Doomcruiser once. It wasn't bad with some upgrades and I think the price was sub 300k.

Well John McClane Mk. 3 is doing pretty well. I'm still using my starting ship (the Tempus Fugit, it's pretty much my default starting ship at this point) but have been having pretty good luck so far. An early chemical shortage gave me about $50k, which was a nice little nest egg to offset early fuel costs. I've been trying to manage my relations so far, but am planning on throwing in with the clans once I get established.
I've been pumping pilot and tactics primarily with points dropped into negotiate and stealth to keep them equal to my level, my hope being that I can eventually hit a point where pirating will allow me to keep my cash flow.
So far I've only looted 7 ships, which seems quite low considering I've got about 300 turns into this game. Only at year 3 though, there is plenty of time to cut a swath through enemy space later!

Nigel Stormraven is about to start getting really serious about the Pirate business. Turn 2374 and he's destroyed 38 ships, enslaved 5 crews and looted 33 ships. Only level 9 currently but have the fully upgraded Black Sun (Serpent'sTooth) in dock at Hydra-Thulun Prime. Currently flying the Black Sun III (Admiral Raider) captured from a foolish neutral pirate that challenged him to a personal duel. Upgraded so far with: Extended Gun Decks, Advanced Bridge System, Escape Shuttle, Titan Components and Predator Tracking Array. Have a Templar and on the look out for a MO and Pilot. $208,000 in bank. -541 rep with Rychart, -220 rep with Cadar and -100 rep with DeValtos. +7 rep Javat, +14 rep Steel Song and +100 rep with my own Thulun. The life of a Commissioned Privateer of the Clans is a good one. ;D Edit: Arrrgh I've been skewered by the dice Bloody Rychart Captain refused to die. Still had over half my crew, 15 weapons and the Templar when he got down to 1 crew. Instead of giving up he continued boarding action against me and after 3 more turns apparently got a lucky hit that killed me outright .

Haha bummer! This is my first experience with a heavily combat focused character and they seem.... disposable. Can't get too attached to the suckers cause it only takes one unlucky roll and you're screwed! Good luck next time, desperado

Oh that's terrible news xdesperado! you had the beginnings of a mean pirate. At least you were only level 9, so have a chance to get back on the horse and take revenge against the evil Rychart bastards with their sick hat fetishes. My Bluebeard is hated by Rychart and damned proud of it.
