Any advice on and how to get XP?

How does a captain rack up new experience points? I've noticed that the number slowly increases when you've flown around a bit (even without encounters). It increases during encounters, but how much?

It would be cool to have some idea of what activities will get you the best bang for buck if you are trying to get your skills up

Come to think of it ... does any one know how much XP is required to go from, say level 15 to level 16? In other words, is there some table that outlines XP minimums for each level?

Things that have helped me were successful fights against tough enemies, just flying through red space, successful completions of missions, and successful explorations. There are probably more but I haven't made the connections yet.

Trade seems to generate XP's, too.

Possibly some kind of XP progress bar might be useful, similar to what you see in a lot of console FPS games like COD?

Cory, think of the experience points you'd earn doing all that coding! Why, you might just level up.

So either some XP hints in rumors or maybe in the manual?

I guess a list wouldn't be hard I could just search the codebase for the function that adds XP.
