I ran into this at level one on demanding trying to get rapid rank 3, almost capped/won against it, then ate my own teeth as I suddenly in one round went from 10hp to 0. I torped till I couldn't which destroyed all but 1 sail and engine, still had a good portion of armor and hull and the crew was less than mine. At that point I think I made the dumb decision to board it which I got to enemy crew to 1 and mine went from 32 to 25. next round of board I was dead. What did I do wrong and why in gods name did I fight an Alien at lvl 1?!?

I think fighting the alien at level 1 is probably the biggest thing you did wrong It's unlucky to come across an alien so soon. The game is designed to be very lenient in the first 100 or so turns, and still friendly until about turn 1000, so to strike an alien so soon is really bad luck. I'm not sure what type of captain you started with, but unless you have high warrior, boarding is something best left for later. You did well using guns and torps. I probably would have just focused on gunning the deck or engines and avoid boarding completely. When you're boarding, your warrior skill is at a premium - that, the number of weapons you have, and the number of upgrades you have all tend to help.

The thing with any combat is that sometimes even when everything appears to be in your favor the enemy can get that one (or two or three...) lucky critical that takes you out. It used to be that my most feared encounters were with level 1 pirates in shuttles, regardless of my own level and the ship I was flying. Reason was they used to favor a kamikaze ram attack that while it killed more of them, only required one or two crits to end a captains glorious career. Point being that your Xeno may have just gotten that lucky critical that killed you. These things happen. Oh and I've had the misfortune of creating a new captain, only to run into an alien ship before even making my first landing.

Yeah learned to avoid certain ships caused they tend to kamikaze, combined with boarding, became a death sentence if I didn't torp-retreat till I had more engines/sails

I'm with you on avoiding certain ships casivek and xdesperado, I always maintain distance from blade/dagger class ships because they love to ram me to death. Doesn't matter what level they are, without fail they will ram me until I die. I've lost so many captains to the bastards that I now torp them into submission on sight. No fooling around for them.

I have also encountered Aliens at lvl 1, on Impossible difficulty. I got lucky. To avoid Aliens also avoid Red sectors and Dead planets. But if you encounter Aliens early on I would recommend to be bold and Epic. Epic victory or epic death .

Nice job but I only had the Vae at the time, and it happened as I was trying to land at Syndicate Core. Space hive out of nowhere, so close to winning first fight against an alien, also was my first fight for that poor captain. Past all of that I'm trying to unlock the temps fugit with my only other captain on hard since he is at 150ae. (yes I only ever made two captains so far in the month I had the game.)

If you ask me, you're lucky! I never encounter aliens. Ever.

Something soon is coming with the Starfallen. I'd love to know but I can wait on that. I keep myself busy with ST, my own game I am making, or college. But now its torture to know that new content is coming soon, that affects a good portion of the game (more than an update for performance optimization).
