im pretty sure one of the planets(forgive my ignorance still new at this plugging away on <embarassed mumble>...demanding)has an urban zone called Rannoch is this a sly mass effect reference?its been a while since i played the series but i recall an admiral Rannoch or a planet called Rannoch i forget which any other mass effect fans out there care to correct me?

This is about 6 years late, but if you enter your Captain's Name as one of the factions i.e. "Tiberius Cadar" or "Tony Thulun"(any name plus faction name), you get a special message from the faction when you start the game. Like Rychart will say "Torp for Cadar" and De Valtos will say "The Senate is watching you closely".
