I had 3 crew, I then enslaved 19 off an enemy. My crew is now at 4. I don't think that is normal. Post what stats you need, ill stop playing this captain until this is resolved. Im at 4/163 crew. Stats are M.O. class, physical stats of 12/11/15/17 and trained stats of 6/15/6/11/15/17/12

That is too few Crew to enslave, and you cannot enslave when you are going into "Bitter Drifting" events.
The bug here is that you are able to click the Enslave button with so few Crew. I will fix the button in the next release!

Ahh, ok. So what is the threshold for enslaving? A hard number, a %, a ratio of you v. them? Would that mean that if my M.O. Captain in a smaller ship gets in, takes out the other captain in a duel, wins, and now it my 60 crew v. their 150 crew, I can't replenish any losses? Or do I have to shoot for the decks first before trying to board?

What all will cause a "Bitter Drifting" event? The only one I've noticed is zero Solar Sails.

I would think having a crew of 5 in a ship that has a max crew of 160 would cause many parts of the ship tlneedin to be unmanned and therefore not working. Also a massive reduction of life support as you don't need the majority of the systems online for 5 crew.

"Or do I have to shoot for the decks first before trying to board?"
Lets not jump to conclusions and throw around random numbers like "60 Crew" and whatever else =)
The Captain must have 1 "True Crew" to Enslave. In player terms that means that Crew must be GREATER than 5. (1 Captain +3 Officers +1 Engine Operator +1 True Crew)
Even a M.O. in the SMALLEST ship in the game (a 10 Crew Escape Shuttle) can still Enslave Crew off of a Flagship Cruiser if he wins. So, the game is clearly not doing anything unreasonable here, and is not stopping any Captain from replenishing losses, is it?
Feedback on this feature welcome.

ehkamp -- Bitter Drifting can be caused by 0 Sails, 0 Engines (where the other ship is destroyed the same turn) and a few other things I will have to research and get back to you. I know the game does something nasty when you have 0 Engines and are in Orbit. At one point in the early 1.x series ... it would just kill you "Orbital Re-Entry Death" but that was removed from the game.

Awww orbital re-entry death sounded really cool! You could line your ship hull with luxury rations and have one last BBQ.
Now if you had some big hats and there was a SP50,000+ Sunblock cream in the cargo hold, there could even be an infinitesimal chance of surviving. Rychart must definitely be at an advantage here due to their expertise in hat procurement.

Was this bug (Enslaved button not grayed-out for Crew < 5 or about to Drift) fixed in 3.6.4?
Edit: Fixed in 3.6.5

Actually, if you were going to line the hull with anything, I imagine water would be the way to go.

Actually, if you were going to line the hull with anything, I imagine water would be the way to go. If you prefer being steamed to being fried, then yes. Please bring back orbital death, with a side order of humiliating and expensive orbital rescue near a friendly urban zone or bankrupting orbital capture near a less friendly urban zone. On a Wild or Dead planet you just get bbq'd. Actually doesn't Pirates! have a shipwreck feature? That would work in ST RPG. If your engines zero out around a Wild Zone, you crash land, lose some crew, lose some food and water, maybe explore for some more, maybe get eaten a bit by the local wildlife, until some helpful soul comes by and takes most of your money for the privilege of getting back to civilisation.
