What difficulty setting? Those numbers should be efficient all the way through Demanding. Crazy, while harder to be sure, requires only a little bit more in your skills to be effective. It also depends on your ship, and whether or not if it's Mickey Moused back together, or actually overhauled at the starport.
Also, I find having lots liquor around helps keep the boys happy. And no, I don't mean Vudka. And by "boys" I mean me.

Oh. Well then, good luck. I have enough trouble just getting used to difficulty jump. It feels like the jump crazy to insane is harsher than any of the previous difficulties. Like, normal to challenging was cake walk, challenge to demanding wasn't as tough as I had expected, and demanding to crazy felt like the perfect increase in difficulty and challenge. Going from crazy to insane, however, feels like going from little plastic wading pool you get your kids when they're little, then tossing them into a tank full of mutant sharks with laserbeams attached to their head. Without floatation devices and sunscreen.
That's just my experience thus far.

You've definitely got to really conquer one difficulty before moving up to the next. I find that I can use a lot less of the overall game mechanics on lower difficulties and still be successful ... meaing that if you increase the difficulty, you need to expand your style of play.

Maybe the key just being as totally random as you can with character building and ship upgrades. If you act unpredictable, then the game can't read your mind!

I just realize that I don't understand the skills as well as I thought I did. What is the benefit of having big hulls? Engines? Pilot vs stealth? AAAAAHHHHHH!!

Officer Genious - Oh you know what? I think I meant to say "I feel you", in response to your frustration. Yeah, I remember now, and I really was half asleep.
