Edward Gambit - can you give a clear description of how the dock says your ship is fully upgraded? Do you already have a sail upgrade? You can check in Status > Ship > Upgrades.

the dock said ... your existing upgrades make installing this impossible in the shipyard

Edward Gambit - ah, you can only have a single upgrade to each component of your ship. So, you have evidently already upgraded your sails.

Edward Gambit : if you want my advice (which you didn't ask but I give it to you anyway  ) go out on sea and make some battles with your most hatred enemy, win them (obviously...) and then...steal their boat ! <evil laugh> you could then upgrade your shiny new boat  Ps : in a strange way, I realize that this joke is...working. Weird !
