I winced a bit at the 4X thread yesterday reading that the smallest craft the brothers have, and classified as heavy or strike fighters has a crew of 5. Going into the comic blind in some areas, I fill things in with what I know with artistic license that includes a pair of somewhat realistically designed fighters. But I still would like to get the "feel" of the comic to come as close to Star Traders and Templar Assault as I can. Noncanon or not I feel I owe it to their intellectual property to do more than simply come up with a story that seems nothing like it and slap a ST logo on it.
So knowing they have fighters and other small craft as well as carriers and knowing the lack of technology or resources for larger craft, I felt that one or two seat Star Wars style starfighters would fill a number of gaps in planetary defense and every other role small combat craft are known for. But it seems now that I did the equivalent of drop X Wings into the Star Trek license, which most people know was all about the larger ships.
Chapter Two started up with the attack of the protagonists by a flight of fighters, and one of theCaptain's crew was a fighter pilot. I'm not about to go retcon or remove anything, but I will have to rethink a few things that I had planned. Not too big a deal.
I'm about done inking the rest of page one. Traditionally I seem to wait until I have 3 inked to scan and finish before publishing. Lots of exposition to get through, but it gets pretty intense towards the end of the chapter.

Good news. The man that took an interest in my work who made that sweet Titan render and I seem to be developing quite a rapport. Not only is he interested in rendering some of the canon Star Traders ships based on my tech drawings, but I've been giving him some advice and some of my techniques for making comics, like formatting, scriptwriting and layout. Hes never done 2d sketching or anything like I have, and neither have I done 3D so I'm hoping we can teach each other or collaborate. I'm on my phone now but will post some more examples of his work later. For someone that has had zero experience figure drawing, I'm amazed at how well he does figures. Maybe there is some kind of template or figure building plugin in Blender. Got a lot of sketching and inking done today. I won't say I'm gaining levels as fast as Andrew but I'm noticing my work is becoming much more consistent, and Have been using models far less. The main exeption being the Berzerker Templar in that TA poster, which I based on an old cover for Thor.

Sam has built another design. This time a shuttle based on Andrew's artwork but its been called many things. I used it in chapter 1.

Finally put together a character spread like I did with the Star Traders officers. I ALSO discovered a local Staples that will produce color 11x17 posters for 2 bucks a pop. I'm not planning on actually selling any without permission from the brothers, but some family and friends have been bugging me for something more physical so I converted and assembled 7 posters based on the teeshirt designs and the Shadows of Shalun work, of which this is one...

Did a TON of scriptwriting today. Some of it pertains to the main plot, some of it is unrelated but helps show how fragile the geopolitical situation in the Quadrant can be- even for the Independent worlds. Or should I say especially?
Things are about to heat up in chapter 3, and eventually- even more so. Much of it is taking liberties with things I've never heard referenced in any of the games. But you're also going to see more Leviathan (and hyperion exosuit) and a helluva lot more Narvidian action. But perhaps not in the way you might think.

With the brothers releasing more fluff and technical stuff, it gives me that much more to work with.

I'm hoping it doesn't make me too lazy, but I like that the Templar use so much ancient relic technology. It really makes me think that with the upgrades available in Templar Assault and the fact that so much is hard to find, there probably isn't a ubiquitous look to every suit or weapon. With Leviathan repeaters, heavy Leviathans, leviathan cannons, different gauntlets, ect, that any continuity errors in how I draw nonspecific suits can be explained by the use of nonstandard ancient parts. I still try to keep them pretty close, but here the extra large sized magazine on this leviathan gun is explained away by extended mags in the game.

I'm coloring the last few panels of the scene. Its only 3 pages, but its just to set up future events, as well as a major villain to both crews. The scene is not just almost entirely action, but some of it as seen in the last post is large and expansive. So yes I reused some previous artwork and some I did a while back knowingI'd eventually get here. Even there its pretty complex, though I'mslowly becoming more used to decent backgrounds. Citiscapes are going to kick my butt for a while yet though. I should get the next 2 pages out by the end of the week.

I've slowed down a bit, my other project as an article writer for sarna.net is heating up with some new interviews and opportunities. Including submissions for a fan-made BattleTech Technical ReadOut. The next two pages just need shading to be done so stay tuned.
