At least that's how I see them. I prefer not to see them as Skaven.
I still maintain my campaign for original races based on plants and minerals! Imagine how incredibly tough it would be to take out members of a race who's very skin is a mineral rock. We don't even have to make them ugly. Picture a woman with crystaline diamond skin, eyes of topaz fire.
Why humanoid? A grand golem creation spell from a wizard gone haywire created the templates long ago, and now the oxdites have evolved into their own nation.
Some people suffer through madness. I give it coffee and feed it biscuits.
PS: I SHALL splash someone with a water balloon soon enough.
