Very cool thread, John Robinson. I like hearing about the Torrent of Steel talk, I tried it out back in Phase 1 and found it to be very fun and very effective. It does chew through your SP, but that's a small price to pay for having a mini-lawnmower working side by side with your Outlander. Especially when the Cleric up on the front lines soaking hits with the Outlander, you can use the Thief as a bit of a skirmisher. Running up, having an attack or four, then withdrawing behind the Cleric/Outlander front line. New classes sound really cool. I, for one, would really use the rogue. A stealth melee specialist sounds fun. A quick question regarding the class system. Are you planning on having each variant of the 4 main classes be built around the same basic key skill? E.G. Thief variants will all have pick lock and disarming traps, Clerics will all have healing, wizards will always be ranged damage dealers and Outlanders will always be loud melee damage dealers. Or are you planning on having some variation in the key skill? For instance, a ranged outlander build (a ranger?) might be cool. A spell-sword like wizard build? Awesome! A black-guard (a kind of evil cleric focusing on damage dealing, not healing) instead of a cleric or a swashbuckler thief (this sounds like your rogue idea, to be honest) would all be interesting and fun.

johndramey - all of the characters are built around the central theme (lead warrior, magical support, stealth+locks+traps, healing). Within that broad category, there is a huge amount of room for variation. In many cases, the variation will bring new and exciting challenges. For example, the Dueler will be harder to play -- blades only, far less natural soak and HP. Where one really good Outlander strategy is to load on HP, Armor, Stone Skin and tank, there isn't an option for the Dueler. The Paladin can lend a strong melee presence to the team, but her healing is far less efficient and shorter ranged compared to the Cleric -- that will bring some major challenges to any team. Still, they are all based on Warrior, Magus, Stealth, Healer slots. Hope that helps paint the vision!

Definitely does, and it's not a bad thing at all. So basically we can always expect the same central theme for each class, but have a lot of variation?
Not to dip too much into the classes yet, but it sounds like your Paladin will be using a lay on hands ability, which is just sweet. Very interested in what you guys put out.

fallen - to derail this thread a bit more : would you allow more than one character of the same class ? (i.e : two warriors, a healer and a thief)

fallen - to derail this thread a bit more : would you allow more than one character of the same class ? (i.e : two warriors, a healer and a thief) Nope, can't allow that. Then the story would collapse and you might not have critical capabilities in the group. Game is completely designed around Warrior+Magus+Stealth+Healer combo.

Everybody may have already noticed. In looking more closely at the description for Dexterity, I found it is used for increasing accuracy with small knives/daggers. So increasing it also allows the Thief to be ability to dodge incoming attacks while increasing accuracy. But I'm guessing this is where the Rogue build is heading, and playing to the Thief's strengths, will always be the bow.
I'm thinking now when the Outlander uses a sword in one hand and a knife in the other. Strength increases accuracy for melee weapons like blades, and hammers but not knives which rely on Dexterity. The Outlander will be putting points in Strength but may not have any to spare for Dexterity, so this could have an overall impact on accuracy using a two hand build with hammer and knife etc.

Has anyone worked on seeing what relationship the primary attributes have towards the secondaries? IE Dodge/Toughness and such. Wondering if each class sees the same increases as the others, due to the fact that both the Outlander and Wizard have 4 Dexterity but the Outlander has 3 Dodge to the Wizard's 4.

John Robinson: I think there's a small mistake in the table. Vraes gets 16HP/lvl instead of the 22HP/lvl that you've listed.

John Robinson: I think there's a small mistake in the table. Vraes gets 16HP/lvl instead of the 22HP/lvl that you've listed. This morning I saw the right number 16 HP/lvl in Vraes's Talent Table of TerrorSo I asked myself how the heck did that happen? The original Startup table was created in November 2013 and did not contain the HP/SP row after Lore. To improve the table I added it some time this year by flipping back and forth between the talent tables while entering the information. I must have misread the value in his Talent table and transposed it. Sorry about the confusion. Fixed. Thanks for noticing.

John Robinson Small correction on the startup table: Kincaid has Stealth 2; your table lists it as an X.

You might want to put a *** by Kincaid's Blades say he can only use Light Blades and 1-H Swords, or dual wield any combo of the two.

TeeWee Hi. Yeah it was a "judgement call" I had left it out on purpose because on a super quick look at his talents (3 a.m.) I didn't see anything that increased Stealth and wanted to make sure this morning that he really does use Stealth. Changed to 2 now. Thanks fallen Done glad to know. Talent Table will be published later today.

Typo: I think the Paladin gets 14/6 HP/SP per level (instead of the 14/16 listed).
