I seem to recall that the old Palm Pilot version of Star Traders let you see the enemy ship's stats (armor, weapons, etc) before you decided whether to fight or flee. Could that be added to the game?

click battle stations if you want to check stats. going to battle stations does not change the options available, just lets you check out the ship. by default, post combat stats are shown.
there is an option called "Rapid Victory Depart" that skips that screen for speed players

Ahh, So clicking "Ignore" is the same as boing to Battle Stations & then doing "Retreat". Got it.
Thanks!

Oh man, I thought Battle Stations meant that you were engaged in combat (and all the ramifications thereof) regardless of the outcome.
Still, I'd love a pre-combat 'hailing' option.

Yeah ... while you work on that, maybe you could allow one rumor to be traded on any "acknowledge" ... that would be a nice way to keep your rumor tree well watered, even when you are doing some deep space junket.

To add further complexity into your hmmmmm, you could use Charisma, Negotiation, or even particular types of officers to help determine whether a rumor is coughed up, OR the value of the rumor (distance, age, type).

Ahh, So clicking "Ignore" is the same as boing to Battle Stations & then doing "Retreat". Got it. Thanks! Not quite in my experience. There are negative rammifications. I have had several occasions when blockading a planet where I accidentally hit battle stations instead of ignore when encountering a ship from a friendly faction, but then hit retreat immediately. When this happens, I have lost death warrants for sure, but I am not too certain about faction loss since I hadn't been watching it too closely.

I love the idea of ship based rumors. More non-combat ship-to-ship interactions!

How about an option to negotiate / bribe / or jettison some cargo to slow the other ship down if they are more interested in profit than kills? I know you can surrender but that always seems too cowardly, however jettisoning some cargo while making a tactical withdraw ...

Jettison cargo and make good use of the Aft Lance Battery at the same time...

Didn't Captain Solo jettison Jabba's cargo because he was about to be boarded? If Solo can do it, then we should be able to as well <grin>

Han was like a level 300+ smuggler captain though, not some little pissant 20th level guy like most of my captains.
And let's not forget the all important caveat, "And Han Shot First".
